Checker remained looking at the ground. "It's my dad. Not my spiritual one, but my earthly one. He was killed about a year and a half ago. I come here every month, to remember him, and to ask for forgiveness."
His hands clenched, and then relaxed. "But I'm going to stop coming. It solves nothing. There's no sense praying for his soul either. Where he is now is where he's staying."
He looked back up at the Reverend. "Thank you, Reverend, but I have to go."
Checker turned and left, his footsteps echoing quietly in the church.
