He could have done something but he decided to wait until the man made his move, after all he had plenty more trick up his sleeve.

Russian watched the man leap into the air before landing on his mech, he then jammed his branch into his shoulder joint in an attempt to tear it off. Of courde he was not going to sit idly by while the man was busy tearing off his arm, so with a click of a button, two ports opened up above the mech and they soon began to fire of shells at the man to force him to get off. If the bullets did not shake him off however he would just have to activate even more gun ports to shake him off. His mech suit had no actual hand held weaponry on him at the moment, however it made up for this by being a weapon itself.
