Retsu had found herself just outside of a seemingly abandoned city days earlier in her arcane garb, but the magical energies that were previously hers to wield were seemingly absent. This had horrified her quite a lot, until common sense kicked in. She made a list of the possibilities in her mind.

There were many possibilities, but most of them were variations on the same pattern.

"I don't think I'm in Kansas anymore", she had muttered, the reference, despite being a bit lame, increasing her mood slightly.

"I'm glad there isn't a wicked witch to fight, as neither my house nor my magic seems to have followed me."

Luckily the latter could be rectified.

Retsu plopped down on the ground, settling into a form to meditate. Had comfort been the only thing to think about, she would have done so in one of the houses of the city. However, meditating while surrounded by nature was far more effective, as the energy tended to be denser there.

While many mages would have expanded their senses outwards in order to determine the flow of magic in this world, Retsu reached into herself, into her very soul where the core of her own magic rested. She used this to interact directly with the magic of the world, poking and prodding it, instead of merely observing.

Time passed. The sun set and rose again a few times before Retsu stirred again. She had managed to figure out the values for Air and Life, although her control over these forces was very tentative, as the forces interrelated to these values were still a mystery to her. Still, she would probably be able to get by at this point.

Well, that and the fact that had she gone on any longer, she would have reached the point where her body might give out at a bad time. Now she still had energy left to scavenge, and if there was a need forage and hunt.

For now she headed into the city, not just to scavenge, but also because she had sensed other lifeforms while she contemplated the concept and value of Life during her meditation. Most were somewhat distorted though, in a manner she could not infer. Instead she headed to the nearest pure lifeform, which turned to be a blue-haired girl, with futuristic accessories that reminded Retsu of Hecate, her cat.

She hoped that the lovable ball of fluff would find a good new home.

"Where the hell am I?", the girl asked herself.

"Hello", Retsu called, hopefully not startling the girl, "I take it you misplaced yourself too?"
