With that said the variable amplitude testing begun.

The world as her mind saw it was shaking. The sound projected at her was a flat, neutral pitched tone that seemed to surround her. The speakers were positioned and directed to give an equal amount of volume on both sides. While this tone would be quite low for most normal people this sound was tortuously loud for her. Her eyes closed and winced as she tried to endure the pain. All the while the scanners measured her brain patterns, mapping activity and transmitting the info back into the computer just across.

All the while Dr. Ritter took record of the data. Already there were a number of areas lighting up, sections which illuminated some key details already. A large number of the sensory nodes of the brain were keenly active, not just hearing but all of them. While they were quite active from the stimuli however the main center for the activity was in a section of the brain which seemed irregular, a part that didn't belong to normal brains. A strange new network of neurons linked closely with all the five senses. It was by no means a small difference.

"But it could be more."

He whispered under his breath as he ended the first variable phase. The speakers cut to silence, leaving Olivia free of torment for the time. The results concluded that sound produces stimulation in the unknown region of the brain. Much could be taken from the information already given but he wasn't done yet. Olivia was well past done, laying limp in the chair just trying to breath while coming down from the pain.

"Beginning variable number two testing."

He spoke into the microphone set on his desk. He didn't leave any details exempt from his research, he was quite scrupulous that way. With that said he turned the speakers on, this time at double the volume of the prior testing phase. Olivia's mouth opened and a dry croak crawled it's way from her throat. It was the closest thing to a scream her body could muster. She so wished she could just shatter apart, the pain in her mind pounding down with the weight of an entire sun or so it felt. No bodily harm would compare to this.

In the computer the wavelengths of the sounds monitored in the room were starting to change. The patterns were irregular, the frequency shortening and lengthening in an unstable pattern. To the naked ear the changes would be inaudible but little escaped the electronic ears of the sensors set.

It all culminated into a spectacular development when her eyes developed singular silver discs in the pupils. A physical alteration manifesting from intense mental stress was everything Dr. Ritter had hoped to see. His fingers worked like lightning as he entered his observations into the open file. While the discs offered a limited insight into the result of the change the neural scanner picked up a veritable buffet of neural developments. It was if something in the unknown region bloomed, revealing a far more complex web of neural pathways.

After collecting a full scan and finishing his observations the "kind" doctor finally ended the phase. The speakers ceased their infernal noise, letting Olivia rest once more. Her eyes were dried out and red, her throat ached and her whole body suffered from the tension it underwent. It hurt to much to even think. She didn't want to think. She didn't want to survive but there wasn't any way to move. No means of escape. All she knew was that she could only hope in vain that it was over.

"Beginning variable number three testing."
