Status: Happy to be back to school and see all my friends again! :)
It was the first day back to West Palms Academy for everyone. Well, for everyone that didn’t have to go through summer school or stay at the school for the entire summer anyway. The school had filled with life the week before classes had begun. Freshmen were advised to come a week early to get settled in and used to the large campus. It was basically known as Welcome Week, all the freshmen would be there getting tours of the campus, making connections, being told where to go, who to see, where their classes were, and a bunch of different events just for them.
On the Friday before classes began, when the rest of the students arrived, there was a huge fair. All the clubs got their own booth to entice new members to join. Free food was handed out to everyone. It was basically a party to start off the new year. The school did like to flaunt its money by throwing the best parties, even when they weren’t completely necessary. There was even some of the best music being played through the stereo system and the free food was catered from some of the most expensive places.
Fortunately the sun was shining and it wasn’t too hot so the whole festival went on outside in front of the school. Some students ran around from booth to booth talking to the different clubs or playing some of the games offered. Others were busy connecting with friends and eating the food. Some of the older students that were used to the campus even elected to skip the festival and were swimming in the pool or playing in the arcade while the other students were busy. The teachers didn’t mind letting the older students wander away from the party, knowing that the kids would be safe with staff members already looking after them.
Alexander Harper was one of the upperclassmen that had elected to leave the gathering early and get away from the crowds. He had said hi to a few of his friends and was happy to talk to them about his summer, but for the most part he had just been there for the free food. He quickly grabbed something to eat then went off to the computer lab to do some work. He did enjoy being outside for a little while, but the crowds were too much and he didn’t want to deal with all the people around. He did invite his friends to join him if they’d like, he knew that the computer labs wouldn’t be touched just yet and that it’d be the quietest place to go.
He walked into one of the labs and was asked to sign his name on a sheet by one of the teachers looking after the lab. Alexander quickly signed his name and went to one of the computers. It was nice to get away from all the people, but the silence of the lab brought about that same feeling he got when he was at home. Still, it wasn’t as bad as it could be, there was the teacher in the lab busy cleaning some of the computers or just trying to keep busy by doing something. If he really wanted to talk to someone he could and he had the option to go back outside and join his friends once again. Right now, he wanted to check up on his website and make sure that everything was running smoothly. He wouldn’t have many free days once school started up on Monday, after all.
Alex glanced through his email first to see if there was anything important. Most of what he got was either from a notification system on a website or business emails. He didn’t really have much to care about or do. There were other people working on patching his website and working on the development ideas he had come up with, but he still enjoyed working on the project he had spent so much time building. He figured he’d hang out in the computer lab and work on a few things he wanted to do with the site then go back to the end of the festival where there’d be fireworks and a long winded speech from the principal of the academy.
