I let the burning in my chest and limbs simmer out slowly as I sat on the floor, eventually finding the strength to open my eyes and look down at myself. The corner of my mouth tugged out in disgust as the blood and debris had congealed on my skin, making my look made from bloody clay or something all together more disgusting. Looking around I spotted a well and a barrel no doubt full of water. It took a few attempts and the walls support but I eventually made it to my feet and struggled forward, more limping and dragging both feet than walking until I reached the barrel and placed both hands on it and look at my reflection in the water. I did not recognize the image that looked back at and sneered at it before dunking my head and shoulders fulling into the barrel, leaving myself submerged for a while until I felt the need to breathe. Whipping my head out and already feeling much better, I set to wiping and cleaning the worst of the filth and gore off myself before stepping to the well and began pulling on the rope to retrieve what I hoped was a bucket tied to its end.

A minute of what was more effort than I would have liked to admit and I hoisted the bucket of clean water over my head and let it wash down the rest of me. After another bucket flowed over me it revealed the sources of my aches and pains. A wealthy collection of cuts, grazes, holes and bruises of all shapes and sizes covering my arms, legs, chest and back. Most the cuts and holes had already stopped bleeding but some had not but what drew most of my attention was hilt protruding from the side of my calf. A heavy sigh escaped me as I reached down and removed it, counting myself lucky that the blade was only an inch or two long.

I felt suddenly light headed, most likely from the loss of blood that I did not realize I had lost and stumbled backwards. I attempted to steady myself against the water barrel but only succeeded in knocking it over and falling into a trough of water, presumably for the horses. The water flowing around me felt nice so I remained where I was and let my eyes slowly close.
