Yui's birthday was easily the event of the year, to punctuate all of the pain and suffering and sadness and loneliness, a high note so that they could all look back on it and realize that even with all that they suffered, they could always bounce back and manage to be happy, as long as they all had each other. Everyone beamed at Yui as she opened up each gift, and contrary to her wishes, Aria was the first to break down into tears, because more than anyone, she wanted a happy day for them all, more than anyone she was just a little softie. Even moreso in this timeline, she never had the chance to really harden and become the haughty jerk she was in most timelines. The hints were still there, but she had a much softer demeanor in general.
They all stayed as late as they were allowed, enjoying the party as much as they possibly could, Akane and Ally excitedly going over the curriculum they had scheduled for Yui to study before entering the school, enlisting everyone to help teach Yui something they excelled in, Xavier was with Aria in one corner, they were both talking about how impossible and dreamlike it felt, to just have everyone smile, free for one day of all the burdens that usually weighed them down. "A year ago, none of us believed something like this was possible." She said, wiping at her eyes for her best friend to pull her into an affectionate hug. "We made it, and every day's going to be brighter from now on, just you wait, Ari." Mizu was apart from the rest, her eyes were narrowed, she was back in business mode, and next to her was Leo.
"I need to talk to you, Leo. It's important, so save time for me tomorrow." She said, spinning thoughts in her head already on how to sell the idea. It was for Yui's sake, of course, to have everyone that was losing their powers be given fake marks so Yui wouldn't have to believe she was alone. Sure, Mizu was an option, but given how she was purposely letting her heart remain unhealthy, she wasn't best for the long run to be relied on. And once the party ended and tomorrow rose, she brought this idea up directly with Leo. "We can't have her be the last one." She said in Leo's office in the hospital. "No matter what, I won't allow it. If I have to use my authority as a Justice to make you agree-"
But Leo just rose a hand in a sort of truce. "Hold on, I'm not saying I won't do it, but you realize we'll need a lot of Yui's blood to make it work, right?" Which meant more needles, enough for everyone, and Mizu grit her teeth. "I know that." She stammered, it was obvious that this was a detail she overlooked. "B-but look, Leo, she's gonna think she's a monster unless we do it, she's gonna think everyone's leaving her behind, to become normal while she stays a freak!" The sickly girl was glaring. "Yui's going to suspect if you suddenly take a whole bunch of blood, so just use the blood you'd usually give to me, I'll just switch to K's synthetic blood in the meantime." It wasn't as effective, but if she took it easy it'd be okay. "You won't take no for an answer, will you?" Leo sighed, readjusting the glasses on his face.
