”That’s a good question,” he replied when stacking some things onto a shelf. He basically knew where everything went within the kitchen and was more than happy to point out where Eris should put certain items of food. ”I don’t think I was born with normal human instincts,” Chou admitted with a grin, ”but it’s ok! Like... it just means my senses are all crazy better than a humans, y’know?” Frankly he couldn’t recall the last time he properly thought about such things. Nobody had really ever asked him about it, but then he had also known that some supernaturals preferred not to be questioned about themselves and thus many often refrained from inquiring.
”Weeeell... my mind doesn’t change, only my body if you get my meaning.” It was hard to explain, he supposed. Or rather just describing it accurately was a challenge. Unless you personally experienced it, how would you fully understand how it felt? Chou wondered about it. ”I actually don’t know whether I was originally a dog or a human,” he blurted out. Was it really possible for someone to forget such an important thing? Yes. ”It’s been many years and I’ve changed so many times that I can’t remember which I started out as.” Chou had made his way over to the book once he was finished putting things away, and began flipping through the pages. He had given the book a quick glance through before leaving though it was hardly his best effort, as the boy took more care and interest when scanning over the contents this time around.
”He certainly hides it well or at least he doesn’t give much away,” Chou commented when referring to the boss and the mystery of their species. The boy had no honest clue, but that wouldn’t stop him trying to find out. ”I remember when he took me in, said he needed a guard dog, you know. But it didn’t seem like he actually needed one.” He paused with a thought, grinning wildly and very proudly as he added at the end, ”Molyneux’s super tough!”
It was a pity though. Molyneux hadn't given the pair any clues to his origins, if only for the sake of making their challenge all the more harder. The half-demon could be rather mean in that sense. ”No doubt Lily will be down to check any minute,” the boy sighed a moment after, ”you sure we got everything on the list? She and the Boss will be helluva' critical.”
