There was no one visiting Corona's little universe in the shell now... and that suited her just fine. She didn't need others, she didn't need anyone, she could just exist all on her lonesome and wait until even her consciousness was taken away into nothingness. It was kind of like waiting for a movie to start, or a game to come out, the girl was bubbling with excitement. True death couldn't some sooner! Then she wouldn't need to worry about Shannon's chastising, or Allison's over-excited apprenticeship, or Brie's jokes and pranks! She wouldn't ever have to think about Hazuki's habit of crying at the drop of a hat, and she hated Asther too much to ever let her live on the island anyways! She wouldn't have to consider being molested and violated by Nami, and most importantly... she wouldn't have to face Reyna with her shame, she wouldn't have to see the hurt and betrayal on her love's face.
Hah, love, what a word. Because it never even got a chance to develop into anything! It was just a pathetic sinful one-sided love from the very beginning. Mama and Papa, they failed quite often at being parents, but they did teach Corona that good Christians don't love their own kind, it's always man and woman. So in a way, her feelings for Reyna were taboo, disgusting, were not to be allowed. And there was no way an innocent like Reyna would ever like her back, not after everything that happened. So no, it never got to transform into love - Corona never felt romantic love once in her life, and soon it was all just going to end anyways.
The mermaid laid down on the empty featureless ground, fading in and out of wakefulness as time marched on as it always inevitably did. No one had come, and that was just the optimal solution. To just lie here and be given a space all of her own, even if it was simple a transient, temporary sort of existence, it was nice. If there was such thing as paradise, this was probably it, right? Just with herself for company, she never had to even do anything but just be here and wait. No more lies, no more disappointments, just the end slowly, slowly coming for her, to deliver her to justice, to a fitting end.
"She probably doesn't remember me anyways." Corona did make that deal with Luis after all, and if he had any honor he should keep it. The last request of a dying mermaid, to erase Reyna's memories of her so that Corona never existed in her reality in the first place. "It's not much of a name anyways... Papa just thought of his real love, beer, and then... I was named." From the beginning she was doomed to live a mundane life, and die just as mundanely. Her eyes were heavy, it was difficult to remain awake. Not that there was any real reason to, it wasn't as if anything changed around here anyways. "I guess I could... take a nap."
