"Oh no! None of you are going to the hot springs today!" Jace crossed his arms, looking at the four of them sternly. "Daisy, Jellyfish, you two are going to escort Nino to the Dragon Inlet to collect precious metals." The Dragon Inlet was named as such not because there was a dragon there, not that anything like dragons existed, but because of the Legend of Smaug and his greed for items that glittered. Should you go to the Dragon Inlet you would find a cave full of glittering jewels that washed up on shore day to day. Not that they were of any use unless you wanted to make jewelry. Apparently, however, Nino had found something to use them for, other than hanging on walls and making into pretty accessories. Nino figured out that diamonds were near impossible to shatter and if you could sharpen them to a fine point, they made fantastic weapons.
Naturally that was her intention on the exploratory trip today. While Nino claimed she could do everything on her own, getting to Dragon Inlet on a day like today would be near impossible for someone in a wheelchair. "She's waiting for you near Coco's Dock, go to her now." Miiko and Rose on the other hand, had to do something else. "You two," he turned to face them. "Before you do anything, Miiko needs to get her wounds looked at. Then, I need you to organize some important documents for the rebellion." Miiko groaned, back to organizing duty? "But Daddy, I can do more important things! I need to find out the extent of my abilities!" Didn't he understand why this was so important? Didn't her Father want Miiko beside him on the battle field because Athena could no longer be there? "I want to know what I can do!" Jace sighed, shaking his head.
"Miiko, I understand that you're frustrated, but I need you to trust me." He turned to Rose, "and you," there was so much that Jace could say to Rose in this moment, disappointment, expecting better, but Jace held out a hand to give her a high five. "Next time the other two start a fight, kick their asses." He ruffled Miiko's hair one last time and sat off to attend to his own duties. "What did he say!" Miiko yelled, her hearing having gone out in that moment. "I have a better idea, let's see what I can do and then we can go to the hot springs!" They could find the time for paperwork some other day, there were other, bigger tasks at hand that Miiko so wanted to deal with. "Come on, maybe Mommy will have lunch ready?" Up the tree they went, to the quiet house perched between two branches that overlooked the ocean.
"Mommy! I'm home! I brought Rose with me!" Miiko looked up at Rose, beaming, "I think I like you," not in a romantic way of course, but in an 'I'll let you stick around,' way. The advantages to being the boss in their relationship were plenty. Miiko got to make all of the decisions, she got to carry around a cool plastic rose, and if she didn't want to hang out with Rose anymore, all Miiko had to do was put the Rose in her backpack instead of hanging onto it. Miiko had strung the Rose to a necklace that she was wearing around her neck. "Welcome back girls," Athena was stirring something in a large pot. She poured some into two bowls and placed it on the table. "I made spaghetti squash soup, I know how much you like it Miiko." Athena turned towards Rose then. "I don't believe we've formally met, I'm Athena, Miiko's Mom."
