”Is there a reason we couldn’t take a plane? Or, you know, a party bus? Anything that would have me doing something else aside from staring at your blank face.”
Without taking his eyes off the road, Ari replied in a dismissive tone, "You're welcome to walk."
As the car ahead of them slowed to a stop, Ari smoothly edged to the side of the road. Even with the windows of the car up, he could hear Axel coarse voice calling out.
"Hey trailer twats! Pit stop!"
Ari sighed in resignation, having long-since grown accustomed to the elder hunter's lack of tact. Exiting the car, he walked over to where Axl was standing.
"I figured it out… This was addressed to Medusa. Head evil bitch gorgon ruler."
Despite himself, Ari let out a small scoff. Ah... I'm fairly certain we all already knew that, considering where we found it.
Even from here, he could see the emerald dapples of gorgon blood on the cream paper.
"It’s not a letter of gathering armies or preparing a battle. War wouldn’t go down in Vegas, hunters are outnumbered ten to one there. Sure it would hurt us but that’s not where you hit us to do damage. Anyone besides Rusty remembered theology? M… Mephistopheles. He’s rumored to either be Lucifer or be the first angel to fall from heaven after Lucifer. So… if the devil or the closest thing to the devil is writing to the head of the Gorgons to meet in Vegas… I believe that this is going to be a meeting of the leaders of the remaining species."
Ari nodded in recognition of the name, its very mentioning sending him back to when he was made to sit through three-hour theology lessons with his father. He wondered how the old man would feel that the lessons were finally coming into use.
"If we can take out the leaders of all of the Dark Species at once… We’d be global heroes. The species would be in chaos without their leaders fighting among themselves and weak. That’s exactly the advantage we need."
The young hunter's brows rows, his expression disbelieving. There it is... that same damn thirst for glory... and that same blind stupidity.
He didn't have to say anything, however, for Lucas shockingly injected a touch of reason into the discussion.
"... Let’s say you’re right...for the simple sake of embracing insanity for a moment...You think all four of us can take out every single leader of every single Dark Species ever? We need to call this in, get some back up, maybe a nuke?"
Of course, she did not listen, instead getting on her motorcycle and going off to 'scout ahead'.
"C'mon! I’m not the only one thinking about this shit, am I?" No. Ari decided against giving the boy the comfort of confirmation, instead shrugging and heading back to the car.
"No offense buddy, but you lack one thing that makes travelling bearable...And that’s being attractive."
"Surprisingly enough, the fact that you aren't physically attracted to me does not offend me whatsoever." His tone was sardonic as he got back into the vehicle, starting up the car just in time for Lucas to fling open the door and force his way back into the vehicle.
I stand by what I said.
Ari sighed, and focused on the road.
