I finally find my footing and make my way over to the table. I sit down in one of the chairs anyways. My height usually startles people, and even though Maddalene didn't seem to really notice it, I still get a bit nervous of being stared at. I put my elbows on the table and rest my head in my hands, and then decide to clean off my face. It takes me awhile, but I realize that there's a large area on my right cheek that's smooth and slick compared to the area around it. Then I remember, as if it were a dream, that the father of the family that I murdered had threw a chair at me, and that chair must have had a large nail sticking out from somewhere. I bury my face in my hands again. No way was anybody going to pass off someone else having a shining streak of gold across her face as 'completely normal.'
