Five different security cameras hung up in the hallway that connected both rooms, at least five that Jaxson could find. For all he knew there could be five, ten, fifteen more. Surely there was one hidden under every nook a cranny because that's something the agency would do. He'd been warned ahead of time that it was for his own protection, and at the time it made sense. He'd be living with a criminal, for god's sake, so of course they'd need to keep an eye out for their agent. But now, getting a good look at the lost and confused boy trailing quietly behind him, it almost felt like the cameras were meant for Jaxson instead.
Not that it would be surprising. Something told him that if they were to measure both Jaxson and Grayson on a scale of who would be the most dangerous and utterly lethal, Jaxson would come out victorious in flying colors. It's no secret that the agent had a tendency to do as he pleased, taking advantage of his ranking and skill was something he had become known for. Something many of the other agents complained about. Something along the lines of Jaxson "getting special treatment", and yes, perhaps it was true. But ask around which of them had to pure guts and skill to do what Jaxson did on a daily and not a single one of them would raise their hand. He may have special treatment but he sure as hell has earned it.
"Um..." the quiet voice almost made Jaxson flinch, not having expected it to cut through the silence. Clearly this would be happening often. "I know this is probably way out of line, but...could I borrow your phone?" stopping dead in his tracks, the young agent turned to face him, brows slightly furrowing together. His dark eyes examined every inch of the young man's face. Such an innocent appearance made this entire situation almost impossible to believe. "I-It's for a phone call. I promise." Jaxson's eyes narrowed at that, arms folding graciously over his chest. He stood close enough to tower over the helpless hacker, unintentionally giving an intimidating aura. He said nothing for several long seconds, only keeping eye contact. In all his years as an agent, Jaxson has become fairly skilled at reading others, even through the smallest of details. And against his best judgement, he reached into his pocket and pulled out a small device, holding it out for Grayson to take.
"Keep it on loud speaker and stay where I can hear you." it may have sounded like an invasion of privacy, but really, privacy was something neither of them would have for a very long time. Their lives had been forcefully meshed into one now, and Jaxson no longer had a choice in the matter. Not that he ever really did. Dropping his arms to his side, he took at seat at the edge of the bed, waiting for the boy to do what he needed to do. Had it been anyone else, Jax wouldn't have hesitated to throw in a few threats, but somehow...they didn't feel necessary.
