Asher awakened in the cold and desolate place that he called home. The ruins of an ancient city surrounded him. He could not tell if it was day or night, but what he did know was that he was awake. He got up and looked around. The first thing he noticed was the quiet. It was always quiet here, but there was always the sounds of the wind. Now, even that was gone. All of the sudden a terrible noise broke the silence. Asher was terrified. He knew that sound. It was the sound of what he called a screechier. The legends told that anyone that came close enough to see it never came back to tell what it was. So Asher ran. He ran out of the ruins as fast as he could, unsure of what would lie ahead...
