THE Asian girl's head snapped up when she heard familiar footsteps approach the table she and her friends were sitting at. "Okay, let's go guys!" Demyan looked absolutely ridiculous, but no one could make his outfit look good.
CLEMENS sighed, muttering out something that sounded like, "finally!" before quickly stretching and leaping off his bench. "Come on, shit-stains, the world awaits," Clem muttered grumpily. Any normal passerby would have immediately coined Clem as rude to his friends, but both he and Evelyn shared the trait of reserving certain cuss words for their closest friends. Their language had always been much cruder than their personas.
SCHOOL festivals were never Evelyn's favorite thing. Both she and Clem were left staring warily at the scene in front of them as Demyan immediately melted into the crowd while Azar peacefully ambled towards wherever he was rehearsing without a care in the world. One might not see it at first glance, but Azar was a surprisingly diligent theatre kid. "Damn," she and Clem muttered simultaneously, the latter adding an, "oh shit, God help me," as a trio of girls - tall, thin, and lean - approached him. Back in middle school, Clem looked like a falcon with his sharp, snake-like eyes, scrawny frame, and petite stature, but he definitely grew into it by high school - something he didn't quite appreciate. Evelyn, thank the stars, was average-looking and not the type to have boys (or girls, for the matter) chase after her for her affections.
CLEM looked like he wanted to murder someone as the girls approached. "Sorry, I don't want to hook up with you," he said bluntly, gesturing for the girls to leave nonchalantly. The three looked shocked, then indignant, giving Clem a dirty look as they stalked away. Clem sighed in both relief and exasperation.
EVELYN patted her friend on the back, getting up from where she was sitting. "Good luck," she said simply. "I'd stay and keep you company, but you of all people should know that I'm not the biggest fan of this sitting still shit. Also -" she paused for a few moments "- I did kind of offer to help Azar with his theatre stuff. Try not to kill someone, Clementine." Clem visibly scowled at the nickname, but he knew it was good-natured.
AFTER Clem gestured for Evelyn to leave, the Chinese girl headed to the place where she saw Azar enter a few minutes earlier. She sighed softly at the chaos in the building; Azar was hard to miss, but in this case, Evelyn couldn't beat the numbers.
MAKING a split second decision, Evelyn turned to her right, where a brunette and blonde were situated. "Hey," she said boldly. "Did you see a hard-to-kidnap dude come in?" You know I would never said things with the intention to bully you, Zarry. "Tall, Middle Eastern, relatively normal clothes compared to everybody else in this joint? He's a friend."
