Hayden was one of the first into the bar that evening. The bartender was sympathetic to their cause, and kept one of the back rooms set aside for them. They spent enough time and money there... especially Hayden. He'd already had a drink- singular, surprisingly- by the time the bartender signalled to him that there was somebody asking for them. Hayden rolled his eyes, ordered another drink, and headed into the back room. It was small, just big enough for the whole team and a few clients. He sent out a text to their group chat.
To: Say Anything
yo, got a client. in the back room whenever y'alls get here.
Only a few seconds later, Alexa walked in, unusually dressed up. Hayden just raised an eyebrow. "New boss at work, wants to smarten the place up a bit. Which apparently includes enforcing the dress code in the IT department. I hate it," she said, pulling out a seat and dropping into it. She immediately kicked off her shoes. "Where's our guy?" She asked. Hayden shrugged. "Finishing his drink, apparently. I didn't think we were that intimidating but I guess I was wrong," he said with a smirk.
They fell into a comfortable silence then as Alexa pulled her laptop out of her bag and started setting herself up. Her laptop came everywhere with her. She had a dedicated computer for work, but her laptop still came to work with her. She wasn't going to risk leaving it alone in her apartment- and besides, a lot of days she checked in here after work. And if she was here, she needed her laptop. Usually, she would have also been ready to go out on the streets, but she hadn't had time to grab a change of clothes, so there was no way she was going front line tonight.
There was a tentative knock on the door. Alexa and Hayden looked at each other, before Alexa called, "Come in!" A man entered- definitely not their usual client. Late forties, early fifties, salt and pepper hair, a tailored suit that put the dress-code in Alexa's office to shame. He looked rich. Rich enough to be able to afford the bribes the police required, which put both of them on edge.
"Is this it?" The man asked on entering. Alexa and Hayden raised an eyebrow, nearly in sync. "Yes. This is the entirety of Say Anything. We do everything. Just the two of us." Hayden drawled, folding his arms. "Everyone else is on their way. Sit. We'll talk when they get here." Alexa said.
