Having hardly had a proper chance to slake his thirst, Flare grew annoyed at the Marill who seemed set on getting them to shove off. Why did this Marill think he owned the whole lake? Its not as if he was the only one in there. Flare never chased other Pokemon around for sitting on a tree stump, so why should this water Pokemon think this whole environ was his domain? Now, admittedly, they were strangers in another stranger's territory. But that was no excuse for hogging the only water hole.

"Psh, It's only one stupid water rodent, kid. Don't pass up whats in front of ya if you don't know if there's any more coming," Flare retorted, his attitude rather flippant for a Pokemon who would probably be bettered by the one he was insulting. Sure their adversary was a water Pokemon, but there was two of them. Well, one and a half of them, Luna wasn't exactly the best fighter in the field.

Defiant remarks aside, the Growlithe soon realized that there wasn't much he could do to the Marill at the moment. The mouse Pokemon was underwater and hardly surprisable, so a fire attack would be out of the question. Flare was loath to jump into the water to go after him in his own domain, especially if his opponent had other friends down there. No, if the Marill wanted to pick a fight, he would have to make the first move, and not just an idle threat. As long as the pair stayed on the shore, Flare was confident the Marill would have to come to the shallows if he wanted to face off.
