"And I do usually walk home with Makayla but not today! I'm going home by myself because she has to help people clean their teeth! She's not going to be a dentist though. She's going to be something else! I forget the name but they help dentists... like with cleaning your teeth." The title of dental hygienist was escaping her at the moment, even though she had pressed Makayla for every detail on what she had been doing for the past few days since she started her internship. They had both been lucky that the dental office that Makayla was placed at for her internship was accommodating with their situation. Makayla was supposed to intern at her assigned site for thirty-five hours a week, from nine o'clock to five o'clock, for eight weeks. Her supervisor was allowing her to work from eight o'clock to three o'clock with no break, essentially doing thirty hours a week, and making up the missed hours at the end of the program, by doing an extra week or so. This special schedule allowed her to still drop Holly off at school in the morning, though it cut too close for her to pick her up from school. For the past two days, Holly had been waiting for thirty minutes on the steps of her school until Makayla could get there, but her sister had attempted today to let her try going home alone, after a few days of walking her through the steps to get home together. It was supposed to help Holly become more independent while also cutting down on Makayla's hectic day, but clearly, it wasn't going as well as Makayla had hoped. Unbeknownst to Holly, though, her sister had started paying $15 a month to add her iPad onto their phone plan, so with it in her backpack, Makayla was able to track Holly's movement over GPS. Makayla definitely wasn't stupid or ignorantly optimistic about Holly's capabilities.
"It's too late for lunch and too early for dinner, so why are you guys here?"
