Ross probably spent the better part of a half an hour pacing back and forth in front of her door. His hands feverously twisted the hem of his shirt. Every minute or so he'd stop before the door, balling his fist and prepared to knock. But just before his knuckles would hit the surface, he'd step back and keep pacing. Occasionally another descendant would make their way down the hall. Ross would try his best attempt to stay calm, leaning back against the wall or pretending to walk down the hall in the opposite direction to avoid questions or whispers... Although that probably still happened.
Finally, he stepped forward and knocked on Petra's door before he could chicken out. It seemed that the second the sound echoed through the hall he regretted his decision. His hand hovered in the air like he was going to knock again, but in reality he was frozen in shock at his own actions. In that long moment standing there in the hall he contemplated running away, disappearing down the hall and pretending like he never showed up there in the first place. But it was too late. He could hear the shuffling on the other side of the door. He felt like he was suffocating, struggling to breathe as he waited for the door to open.
