"Where are we going?" Kyo inquired, practical clothing shoved into her arms. She wasn't moving fast enough for Thirteen, however. He plucked her clothing off and forcibly dressed her in the bundle he held. "On a hunt," Thirteen replied, perhaps perplexed by Kyo's faulty memory. That would be his own fault, considering he had previously thrashed her so hard that she had spent the last twenty four hours teetering between life and death like a toddler walking a dangerous line. "What will we be hunting?" Kyo asked as breakfast was served. They were eating in Thirteen's room, the food on the table piled high. Supple bread rolls, scented with lavender and honey, still warm from the oven. Perfectly round blueberry pancakes and maple jam, eggs, and enough bacon to feed a small army.
"What do you think?" Thirteen asked as he pulled open a bread roll, steam rising from the crumb. He slathered a large amount of butter onto it and took a bite. Kyo swallowed, looking around at the food. "No need to be so formal, the Queen isn't here to scold me for feeding my pet at the table." With a nod, Kyo reached over, using her fork to push pancakes and eggs onto her plate. She ate slowly, savoring every bite. "We're hunting humans, aren't we?" She asked and despite the wonderful smell, the food turned sour in her stomach. Thirteen nodded, "of a sort. Some of the humans mutated beyond what you would consider humane." Hearing such words made Kyo's tail swish anxiously. "They attack everything on sight, be it those from planet X, or other humans."
"So you're going to kill them?" Kyo inquired silently, thinking of her school friends, of her neighbors, of her parents, murdered in cold blood. "Perhaps," Thirteen replied idly, clearly bored by the conversation. "Or maybe we'll find something more interesting, for example, an entire colony of humans." Kyo choked on her milk, white liquid pouring from her nose as she coughed, having inhaled some. Thirteen gave her a disgusting look, tossing a pile of napkins in her direction. "So you knew already? And you didn't think to tell me?"
"I've heard rumors, but that's all." Kyo admitted after she was finished sneezing milk. "I see," Thirteen fell into a perturbing silence, perhaps wondering how he should punish his pet for failing to inform him of this human colony. "Tell me the rumors," he demanded, leaning forward. Thirteen folded his hands on the table and rest his chin against a closed fist. Kyo nodded quickly, pushing her food aside. She told him everything she knew, or at least, everything that he wanted to hear. "Is that all?" He asked when she was done, her ears trembling from having revealed so much. Kyo nodded, feeling a wrench in her stomach. Perhaps it was a good thing that she had never made it to the actual colony.
"Stay here," Thirteen disappeared behind the grand doors to his bedroom. Kyo went over to the windowsill, flipping through the pictures she had drawn. If she had any hope of escaping, it had quickly been dashed.
