"... Pfft."

After a few solid seconds of staring at the Commander, the corner of Quinn's lips lifted. She cocked her head in confusion.

"Excuse me?"

Putting her hand to her mouth to suppress a chuckle, she shook her head.

"No, no, no, no..." she murmured, then glanced up to see Sarah's firm, sincere expression - and she started laughing.

The youthful, tinkling sound turned the heads of those by the Commander's tent. Inside, Quinn was having difficulty keeping her footing. She swayed her on her feet as she clutched at her stomach and covered her bright grin with a hand.

"Oh my Gods," she gasped, wiping a tear from her eye. As her laughter died down, her expression turned to one of horror, "OH MY GODS!" Her arm swung wildly to gesture in the direction of Miriam's cage. "THAT is Beautiful Tempest?!"

That definitely turned a few heads, too.

Quinn ran an overwhelmed hand through her bangs and turned to start pacing. That was the wrong Miriam Gale. It had to be. Oh, if she was the right Miriam Gale, and Miranda still had the gall to criticize Quinn's romantic history...

It struck Quinn, then, that this was a Commander she shared the space with. With a sharp intake of breath, she shut her eyes and willed herself back to professionalism.

"Whatever consequences may come, I can handle them," she began stiffly. It felt so strange to talk seriously of this... frankly bizarre turn of events that she still could not wrap her mind around. "I'm not going to release a prisoner in fear of angering Miss Wavecrest. Are you not more concerned for what she did to be in that cage? Because right now, as far as the witnesses are concerned, she hit a man and he died. Speak to the witnesses, look over the evidence, and if you believe her innocence, convince them. I will not release a prisoner while those with me representing Arklay remain convinced of her guilt. Miss Wavecrest will understand that."

Gods, this was painfully surreal. She needed a drink.
