The flames flickered in constant perpetuity, a calming aura settling about the room. The Elders watched, perhaps questioning whether or not going through with this contract and not killing the demon was the best idea. Zinnia abhorred the idea of slaying the creature, even if it had caused a bit of turmoil. No doubt this relationship would be mutually beneficial. The demon would get to live on earth, in a weakened state, and Yue would perhaps form a bond with something other than Blithe's tail. Her attention returned to the ceremony, if this went wrong, then Yue's soul could be taken by the demon, she needed to assert dominance over the beast. The bat seemed to have no qualms with forming the contract and upon the terms being met, the candles flared, their contract mark appearing. Zinnia and Blithe had one as well, each one unique to the duo.
The flames died out, the Elder Council seeming satisfied by the display. "Congratulations," Freya's smile was kind. "You've just performed your first act of magic." Madame Pomfrey fussed about them afterwards before they were given permission to return home at last. The hour had grown late, but Zinnia was no longer tired. She felt energized, recalling her first summoning. She slid off of the bed, prepared to walk to her chair, but Blithe scooped her right up, "don't overdo it Master, you just went inter dimensional." Her tail held Zinnia by the middle, gently holding her upright. "Don't be ridiculous Blithe, I'm fine." Her familiar would hear nothing of it, instead, opting to carry Zinnia to her chair, parked just outside of the room. "Come along Yue, the last thing you need is to get lost in the dark." A blue flame illuminated their path so that Zinnia's chair wouldn't get stuck in a pothole.
"What you just did was incredible," Blithe praised Yue as they walked, Rainarch somewhere along the path. "Making a contract with a summons isn't easy, you've done well." She pat Yue's head, seeming rather proud of the girl. In the matter of a day she had gone from clinging to her tail, to forming demonic contracts. Blithe looked up at the sky through the trees, her smile faltering when she noticed the moon. "Zinnia, it's a waxing crescent." The young witch's fingers curled into fists, leaving small impressions in her skin. Tomorrow night the house would prepare to brace itself for the worst. For now, however, Zinnia would ignore the dread.
The garden flickered, the plants illuminating the pathway to the greenhouse. "We really must fix that lamp," Zinnia sighed, her chair parking itself beside the porch. "I'm hungry, what about you, Yue? We haven't had any supper." The fire in the hearth flickered on, courtesy of Blithe, who turned back into a fox and went to curl up by the blaze. Zinnia took out her wand, the kitchen utensils beginning to dance in unison to prepare a midnight snack. Zinnia floated towards a chair, sinking down into the cushions. "Do you understand now, Yue?" The red haired witch asked as two sandwiches floated towards the table, a third drifting towards Blithe, who caught the snack in her mouth. Most demons didn't consume human food, but Blithe enjoyed having something to chew on.
"You're a witch."
