|| Dearly Beloved || Utada Hikaru ||
Callisto thought of everyone behind her as she danced on stage, of all those who had supported her thus far. She took their feelings, their happiness, and used it to power her performance. The Barcelona stadium was amazing and the concert went on without fail. That evening, they boarded a plane to Shanghai. It was a twelve hour flight, strangely she was seated next to Black Jack, who opted to switch with Jace so he could sit alone and get some sleep. “Have a good flight Fina,” Callisto smiled, wiggling her fingers at her and Dane, who sat across the aisle from them, Callisto still convinced that Io could harbor some feelings for Dane that weren’t Motherly. “How are things between you and Black Jack?” Callisto asked Jace, who was playing with the television. They were in first class once more, which Callisto found strange considering they were androids and wouldn’t really notice things like extra amenities, but it was nice all the same.
“Things are fine, just fine,” Jace replied, seeming a bit distracted. “We talked some more, he wants his older sister, but I can’t be that for him. He understands, he’s just happy that he spilled the beans.” Callisto nodded, listening to the combat unit speak. “You’re allowed to love things Jace,” the idol unit said softly. Jace shook her head, “I’m a combat unit, I barely have room for one thing in my programming.” That one thing being Cali of course, the idol unit she was never supposed to fall in love with. It happened though, two androids, in tune with one another. Why not? They had all the bits for it, Dr. Grover, strangely enough, had made certain of it. “I’m just saying, if you do change your mind, I’m sure Black Jack would be glad.” Callisto’s tone was gentle, the stealth unit was already asleep in the next row.
Dinner was served, Jace wanted to watch a movie with her, but Callisto fell asleep halfway through, needing to charge due to low batteries. Jace plugged her in while she remained in power save mode, tucking her sleepy idol unit into the chair that turned into a bed. By the time Callisto awoke, they arrived in Shanghai without incident. “Did you enjoy the flight?” She asked Fina and Dane once they debarked the plane, their luggage taken care of, thanks to their first class amenities. “Jace and I started watching a movie, but we didn’t get to finish it because I fell asleep.” She giggled in admission as they walked towards their awaiting vehicle. Black Jack followed behind them, his footsteps seeming lighter, his back straighter. It seemed that confessing to Jace really had made a difference.
Would it be enough? Callisto hoped so, she didn’t want to see her friends torn apart because of this, just like she and Io had once been. Hopefully this experience would only make them grow more fond of each other, already they had worked so much out, but there was still more that needed to be done. Rome wasn’t built in a day, as the saying went, and repairing their relationship would take even longer.
