Marie apparently had lots of free time as a writer and would come visit him during the days too. Sometimes she would read to him, other times they would just gossip together, other times she would help him walk around for physiotherapy which was getting better as of late. His joints didn’t feel as stiff. Overall he had been starting to show signs of a little recovery. His body still ached, he felt tired more often then not and he was still bruised from all the tubes and wires and needles he got constantly, but he must have been getting thicker skin because the bruises weren’t as terrible, he was able to sleep a bit more, he didn’t need an oxygen mask as often. It was a good sign, and Naoki knew it wasn’t medically possible, but he chalked it up to the good vibes from Kenta and Marie.
Today, he watched as the two of them had a little spat after spending the day braiding parts of his hair with Marie and talking about Kenta’s childhood before Marie excused herself for a meeting.
“Sorry if she's been invading your personal space, she doesn't really like people a lot of the time but when she gets attached, she gets... really attached." Kenta sighed as he sat next to Nao.
Nao shook his head vigorously, ignoring how it made him a teensy but dizzy, and gave Kenta a big smile. “She hasn’t been invading at all! She’s really kind, your mom. It’s a bit weird, having someone dote over me.... y’know, cuz my parents haven’t always been around. But Marie? She’s what a mom should be.” He thought wistfully and ran his fingers over the braids in his hair. “You’re lucky to have her. She’s lucky to have you.”
He leaned back against his hospital bed and hummed. “I would like to be like that if I had kids someday.” He had always thought about having a family of his own, and kids he could treat with so much kindness and love. That idea seemed so far away now that he lived in a hospital bed.
He snuggled into his bear blanket and pillow and peered at Kenta. “Have you ever wanted to make some kids?” He wiggles his eyebrows at the boy playfully.
