Roz moved parallel to Nat, thankfully she had gone towards Megâs head and left the lighter part to Roz. âZure, zure. Captain will know where to find you, Gadget. Roz spoke to Eon as she walked off, looking back at Nat and nodding when ready to lift. âYou know Iâm alwayz up for a drink.â She said in response Natâs question about drinks. Drinks. One thing Rozalia loved doing almost as much as shooting was drinking, so when Nat taught her the sign for it, she would almost always be seen throwing it up whenever they had down time. The Captain wasnât one for having a gunner who was under the influence so being able to bring it up and offer it under her radar when she wasnât paying attention was a good thing. âI bet Captain haz the good ztuff in her room. Probably bezt to drop her off there right?â Roz said once she had lifted up Megâs lower half.
Nat reached down to lift Meg at the same time as Roz to reduce the chances of accidentally causing Meg any injury. She looped her arms under Megâs armpits and lifted until she was at chest height. She gave Roz a look that said, Good plan.
Slowly, the two made their way to the captainâs quarters which wasnât too far from the bridge. Captain canât exactly be too far from the main hub of activity on their ship now can they? Or at least⊠that was the excuse Meg always gave. âSo the new girl can heal huh? That zhould be helpful, I canât wait for the Captain to find out about being ztraddled in her bridge.â Rozalia said some comments with a giggle as they walked down the hallway. It took some finagling to get the door open and more than a few wiggles and adjustments to find and get Megâs ID card.
Once they had the door open and entered the room, the deposited their captain onto her bed. Nat sighed. She stretched her back and ran a hand through her hair. âSheâs gonna be pissed when she finds out.â She lifted her eyes from the unconscious form to Roz as a slow smile spread across her face. âFor the straddling and the fact that we raided her cabinet.â She pointed to where the liquor was stashed in an old fashion wooden cabinet that was kept secured in case of rough space travel.
âMeh, zhe owez uz. Wonât be too mad if we have a little.â Rozalia said as she waved her hand and pulled open the wooden cabinet, revealing multiple bottles of different colored liquids, some closed and some half drank. âWhich poizon do we reward ourzelvez with tonight? Actually, I feel like the real queztion will be how long the Ztarduzt pilot will lazt tonight?â Roz asked with a smirk on her face to Nat before looking back into the cabinet, still not entirely sure what to grab, brushing her hair out of her face.
Nat chuckled. âOh, is that how weâre going to play.â She moved passed Roz, nudging her gently out of the way with a bump of her hip. âRude.â Nat grinned as she reached to the back of the cabinet for the bottle of amber liquid in a frosted bottle. The label read Sunspot Whiskey, cinnamon, vanilla, and orange flavored whiskey. She sloshed it around as she showed it to Roz in her one hand and grabbed a few glasses with the other. She set the bottle and the glasses on Megâs desk and perched there as she poured the drinks. One the drinks were poured, she reached into her pocket and withdrew the prototype for a wrist keyboard that would allow her to communicate easier. She tested it out. âAny ideas on a drinking game?â
Rozalia quickly grabbed the bottle and poured herself a shot and drank it before looking back at Nat, gulping down the liquid to get a taste. âWhoa, that waz⊠interezting. How aboutâŠâ Roz paused for a second to think âHow about for every time you teach me a zign, I drink, and every time I give it back, you drink?â She said with a smirk on her face before she sat down in Captain Hellfireâs chair, a place she normally wouldnât if the captain was conscious.
Nat sat forward, her elbows on her knees and grinned at Roz, mischief gleaming in her eyes. âHow about every time you get one right I drink and every time you get one wrong, you drink.â
âEazy. Youâre on. Hit me.â Roz laughed setting her cup down and getting ready, looking forward at Nat waiting for the first sign.
Nat leaned back, swirling around the whiskey in her glass filling the room with its aroma. âHow about a quiz first to get us started?â
âI mean, however way you want to loze.â Rozalia said with the smirk still on her face.
Nat reached to her hip and pulled her blaster out of its holster. She held it up, eyebrow raised questioningly. Roz giggled and quickly gave the sign for blaster. âTold you thiz would be too eazy, drink up.â
Nat shrugged and obliged. The liquor slid down her throat easily, its warmth filling her. âNext word.â She pointed to the unconscious form in the bed. Roz thought for a second, then gave a sign with a shrug, hoping it was right. Nat, with a look of surprise on her face, poured herself another shot and drank it. Roz had struggled with that one previously. âLucky guess.â She thought for a moment, fingers drumming on her glass. Then she smirked. âLast quiz question. How do you sign my name?â
âPfft, again easy.â Roz said before quickly throwing up three signs to spell out Natâs name and sticking her tongue out at Nat and relaxing in the captain's chair, not realizing she mixed up A and S.
Nat smirk turned into a grin and she leaned forward to pour a shot into her glass. âDrink up, buttercup.â Roz was shocked she got it wrong, she put on a slight pouty face before drinking the warm liquor. âNextâ
Nat thought a moment and then shrugged. âWhat do you want to know? Sometimes itâs easier to learn something youâre interested in instead of having someone choose it for you.â She smirked and signed, Like âdrinkâ
âOh! What about brown eyez!â Roz exclaimed, referencing Natâs eyes.
Nat rolled her âbrown eyesâ and typed, âThatâs two words, butâŠâ She folded her hand into the letter âbâ and placed it by her cheek for brown and then pointed to both eyes for âeyesâ. It was actually a very easy sign which meant Nat was probably going to have to take a shot. âTry it.â
Roz watched carefully as Nat demonstrated the sign on her by her face, she slowly replicated it after a second and smiled at Nat. âI donât think i even need a glazz anymore.â Nat scoffed, but took her shot. The room was beginning to blur at the edges. âNext word?â
Roz relaxed a bit and slouched in the chair as she tried to think of another word, looking back at Nat. âWhat about drunk?â Roz said with a giggle. Nat laughed considering the sign for drunk is a little ridiculous and spot on and at the prospect of Roz and Nat already, possibly, maybe even a little drunk. âWait wait, no. Laugh?â Nat lifted her eyebrows in surprise. âLaugh?â pink bloomed at her cheekbones, both due to the alcohol settling in and the idea that Roz asked because Nat laughed. âOh, its..â She made âLâs with her hands and pointed to the corners of her mouth. Then she twirled them up in small spirals and stopped by her ears.
Rozalia just stared as Nat did the sign, but honestly not getting it when she did it, all she got in her mind was the L. âUhâŠâ She had no idea so she just grabbed the bottle and poured herself a drink and swallowed it quickly. She wiped her mouth and shook her head, but then realizing that wasnât a good idea, getting a little dizzy.
Nat laughed and reached for Rozâs hands. âItâs actually pretty easy. Come on, give it a try. Make some âLâsâ. Then twirl them up by your ears.â Roz blushed a with Nat holding her hand, and was able to replicate the sign with her help. âZo that meanz you drink now.â
Nat laughed again. âYou wish.â The alcohol was making her into a laugh track⊠great. âPretty.â The word just spilled out of Rozâ mouth without her even thinking while looking at Nat.
Well that did it. The heat rose from Natâs cheeks to the tips of her ears. Thankfully they were hidden by her hair. She reached up to tuck a strand behind her ear, but stopped, realizing that it would reveal the blushing. So instead, she let the lock of hair drop into her face and she looked away. âIt actually means beautiful, but it also works for prettyâŠâ She looked back at Roz, but didnât meet her eyes. She opened her hand so her thumb was by her chin. She fluttered her fingers closed while making a circle in front of her face.
Roz watched very carefully, she probably looked ridiculous just staring at Nat. When Nat was done Roz just made three circles in front of her face. âGood?
Nat grabbed the bottle and reached out to pour another drink for Roz in answer, but the room tilted suddenly and she nearly dropped onto her friendâs lap. Without thinking she signed, Sorry. Then repeated it outloud and pushed steadied herself once more on the desk. She tried to blow a strand of hair from her face, but failed and gave up. She poured her a drink and waited, for the next word.
After giggling for a second, Roz downed her drink, looking back at Nat, staring for a couple seconds, watching her try to get the strand of hair out of her face. Roz gently moved it out of her face and grazed Natâs lips. âLips?â A light smile crept across Rozâs face
Natâs eyes found Rozâs, noted the smile on her face. Her heart was racing in her chest. She wasnât sure exactly what was going on. Why Roz was looking at her like that. Why her body was reacting to it in such a way. Why there was a burst of energy between them when they touched. Nat reached up and took hold of Rozâs hand and used it to make the sign for âlipsâ. It was just the dragging of a finger around the area. Then she reached out and did it to Roz, using the same hand, and then released it, using her own to trace the soft, pink skin.
Roz started blushing, a light flame flickered in her hand as Nat traced her lips. Roz slowly leaned in and traced Natâs lips, before leaning back and pouring Nat a drink since it was a really easy sign. Roz watched as Nat drank the liquid in her glass before asking for another word. âK-Kiss?â Roz hiccuping lightly.
Something besides alcohol warmed Natâs stomach as she took her shot and heard the word that Roz requested next. She put her glass down, and scooted to the edge of the desk. Practically in Rozâs lap. She brought her hand to her cheek and traced a line with her fingers from the corner of her mouth to her cheek bone as if guiding a kiss to her cheek.
Roz smiled as Nat traced on her face, the gentle touch of her fingers. As Nat finished there was a silent moment that lasted a couple seconds, and then she just leaned forward and kissed Nat.
The moment Rozâs lips met hers, fireworks ignited behind her eyelids. It surprised her so much, she jumped back. She looked into each of her eyes, before leaning forward and kissing her back. She slid the rest of the way off the desk so she was sitting on Rozâs lap, her arms twining around her neck to pull her closer. In this moment, everything she thought they were exploded into dust and she had no idea what they would be now. Was it the alcohol? Was it real? They flirted all the time, but did it mean something more than just teasing?
Roz wasnât sure what made her lean in and kiss Nat, but there was nothing making her back away, it all felt natural. Rozâs arms wrapped around Natâs lower back and pulled her in tight going deeper into the kiss.
Nat grasped at Rozâs hair, her cloak, whatever she could grab as the kiss deepened. It was getting to the point where she couldnât figure out where one girl ended and the other began. They were two souls floating in the ether of the universe. At least, she felt so light it was almost as if she were floating. Her heart was racing, pounding so forcefully she knew Roz could feel it too. She wondered if she knew what else she was feeling. How badly she wanted more. How she couldnât seem to pull Roz close enough. How Rozâs warm touch was heat, was fire on her skin.
Someone cleared their throat, Nat gasped so hard she choked.
Across the room, sitting up in her bed, and watching them with an amused grin. âIâll pretend I didnât see that if you pour me a glass of my liquor.â
