Ash eyed the mud field between them and the main building for a moment before taking a glance around and deciding it was worth it taking a more circuitous but slightly drier route along the tree roots that were around. It did look like some parts of the mud were drier and more shallow than others, anyway. He rolled up the cuffs of his sweatpants to his knees and headed into the swamp.
"Isaac, over here. It's a bit drier."
He led Meira towards some of the tree roots, shaking the mud off his feet with each step. At least it wouldn't be totally disgusting when they were done. Hopefully they'd get a chance to clean themselves off after this meeting thing in the gym, assuming it wouldn't take too long.
"Gross." Meira muttered. "Dry soil is so much nicer underfoot."
"Now you know why I avoid humid places." Ash quipped. He eyed the ground in front of them for a moment and then took another cautious step, and his foot sank in up to midcalf.
"Godsdammit."
"Jump, you fool." Meira rolled her eyes. She let go of his hand and jumped past him, practically slamming into the next tree trunk, but quickly steadied herself. Ash trudged forward with a roll of his eyes.
