So perhaps jeans might have been a slightly better option than shorts and tights. It was cooler outside than she'd been expecting, and the slight chill in the air meant that she walked a little faster than usual to get to the diner. It was a nice morning, though, and the fresh air made her feel a little more awake and a little more alive. It was an improvement on zombie mode, anyway. One couldn't be blamed for thinking that Bear Point was a wonderful, idyllic place on a morning like this. Everything seemed so calm. So peaceful. So... safe. But Maddy knew the truth. There was someone... or something attacking innocent people. This town wasn't safe. It hadn't seemed safe to Maddy in years.
But the diner was a brief feeling of familiarity, of safety. She glanced around to confirm that Jordan wasn't there before sliding into a booth and pretending to read the menu, as if she didn't already know exactly what she wanted. She got the same thing pretty much every time she came here, which was their french toast and fresh fruit, with the biggest cup of coffee they had. She grinned as Jordan came in.
"Don't worry about it. I completely get what it's like. Had to be up practically at sunrise this morning to go for a run with Mom before she went out to work, because with everything that's going on, I hardly see her any more, and-" She caught herself and grinned a little bashfully. "Sorry. Ranting again. I'm just... worried, that's all. How are you? How was work with Dad?" She asked. A waitress appeared at the table, and was able to greet them both by name. Maddy liked Guinevere. She was friendly and always said hello every time they were in there and could always remember their names and orders.
"Please, Guinevere. It's been... wow, like a whole two hours since I last had a coffee," she joked.
