Markus seemed to tend to like to use constructs of one form or another. Distance wasn't an issue as such, but Lucian knew that when their powers were matched against each other, distance would work better for Lucian. That said, when they were dealing with the goons, they needed to be prepared to assume that their abilities wouldn't be as effective. So, instead, Lucian, still facing away from Markus, threw himself backwards and used the momentum he created to pull Markus over his shoulder, throwing him against the ground and pinning him there.
"You think I'm going to go easy on you, Vasco? You can think again," Lucian said, leaning in close to Markus' ear as he spoke. "First mistake. We've seen they have some level of resistance to our abilities. That implies that they're aware of them. Don't waste your energy on trying to spook them. Either keep them at a distance, or go physical." He instructed. When he'd been on the streets, he'd learned quickly that a scared teenage kid was an easy target and you drew the wrong kinds of people. He'd also learned that some of them would go from wanting to steal his sleeping bag to wanting him dead if he revealed he had abilities, and so he'd had to learn to fight without giving himself away. The difference was, that if you put up a fight, they'd generally lose interest and move on, looking for an easier target. That wasn't an option here.
