Sloane didn't move much beyond a deep breath every so often, or when Rocco tugged on the leash just enough to nudge her. The breeze was cool, blowing her brunette locks about her face, more unkept than she normally allows herself to be. Her gaze hadn't seemed to shift from a particular speck of dirt between her feet that seemed to stand out compared to the hundreds around it. All the while her right legged bounce in an anxious sort of way as she chewed on her bottom lip.

She didn't notice Liam approach. She should have. Liam wasn't particularly quiet, if anything it was like he was intentionally trying to make his presence known. But even with that, his large lumbering body coming into her peripherals made her jump slightly. Sloane instantly tensed, her back becoming erect as her grasp on Rocco's leash tightened. Her bottom lip slowly slipped from its place between her teeth. She watched him give the dog a pat on the head but that didn't hold his attention for long.

Liam flopped down on the step beside her, not giving her any sense of personal space. Sloane would have scooted over if it wasn't for the fact that her other side was already against the railing. So, there she sat, pinned, hip to hip with Liam. She didn't dare glance over at him. Part of her, deep down inside, couldn't help but feel a little relief that he returned alone. She didn't know why and as much as her curiosity consumed her, she didn't ask. Silence seemed more tolerable than whatever answer she could hear. The odds didn't seem in her favor when it came to an amiable reply.

If silence could make someone go deaf, then Sloane's ears would have bled. It was like everything was amplified. Time seemed unmoving. The tension between them was different, not like it ever was before. If they had made any progress forward with their friendship... or whatever, it had reverted nearly to ground zero within a mere moment. Liam took the leash from her grasp and let the pup run free, leaving her palms open absent the item they once held. With a soft sigh, she gently pinned her hands between her knees, letting her gaze fall slightly.

Out of the corner of her eye she saw Liam shift to look over at her. Part of Sloane wanted to meet his gaze. Instead, she didn't move, her eyes frozen on a spot on the ground. It was only when he began to lean in toward her that her head turned in his direction. There wasn't much of an opportunity to question him and barely give a confused expression before his massive hands cupped her face. She wanted to look away, but Liam wouldn't let her. The eye contact made her pulse race and her cheeks flush. He then pulled her closer. Her hands instinctually pressed against his chest but it didn't stop him from closing the distance between them.

And then... he kissed her.

Sloane knew that she was supposed to close her eyes, maybe even cup his face with her own hands. But she froze, her eyes wide with her hands still pressed against his chest. It wasn't a tender kiss like something someone naive like her would have imagined that was often seen in Hallmark or Disney movies. It was... intense. He kept her close, moving his hand to the back of her neck to keep her where he had her. She didn't know how to react or what to do. Her body was tense and trembled from the contact. And it seemed just when she managed to close her eyes and attempt to reciprocate in anyway, Liam pulled away.

As he stood, Sloane remained where he left her. She stared blankly where Liam had once sat, her hands still outstretched as if he remained, yet her fingers trembled with nothing to hold them still. She tried to catch her breath and let the passing events digest as he walked away. What in the hell just happened? The last moment she saw him, Liam was grabbing a blonde by the mane and fantasizing about her naked body. Yet here he was, without said woman and he kissed her. What she'd give for the ability to read minds. And although it would only take a touch to make him divulge whatever was snaking around in that head of his, she wouldn't do that.

A slap on the door frame caught her attention enough for her hands to finally fall to her lap. "I can see if Trinity will let you stay with her if you want to be away from me. I just -" Sloane inhaled sharply but couldn't bring herself to say anything. This was the end of the line apparently. A good bye kiss perhaps? She tried her best not to let the mix of emotions that churned inside her show on her face as she turned to face back out toward the woods. For a brief moment she had someone who actually seemed to care about what happened to her. A friend. Maybe more. But all good things come to an end...

"I don't know how to be anything but what I am. I'm... probably going to fuck up a lot. I always fuck up. So, maybe Trinity would be a better cabin mate. You can both talk about what a dumbass I am together."

She looked back toward him, watching his back disappear into the cabin. When he reached his bedroom, he slammed the door shut behind him causing her to jump. Sloane sighed softly and tugged at the hem of her skirt. She quickly lost track of how long she sat there in the silence until a wet nose nudged her calf. Rocco sat at her feet with the leash in his mouth, expectantly wagging his tail. With one last deep breath, she pushed off her knees and stood.

The climb up the stairs was slow. She was confused... about it all. The past day had been a whirlwind and left everything she knew on its head. It seemed for a small amount of time when she was with Liam her shell was slowly opening. She felt things she didn't know she could, became a little stronger... Or so she thought. But guys were confusing. He was confusing. And she was stupid for letting herself get wrapped up in whatever was going on there. The presence of Eve only seemed to bring out the harsh truth of it all. That Sloane was Sloane and Liam was something else entirely.

She waited just inside the cabin letting the pup run in before she closed the door. Instinctually, she locked it behind her, the fear of her brother still plagued her mind, even when other thoughts took precedence. Sloane sighed, lightly tapping her index finger on the counter beside her. She gave one last bump of her knuckles on the wood and stepped further into the room. She turned to see Rocco whining and scratching at Liam's bedroom door begging for entrance. Sloane pursed her lips, staring at the animal and the closed door. Her head fell as she tapped her toes. With a deep sigh, she finally trudged across the room. "Hold on," she whispered to dog as she squatted down beside him.

Her fingers gently stroked the soft grey fur before unhooking the leash from his collar. Sloane's hand then hesitated by the door knob. She couldn't avoid him forever, even though the pit in her stomach only seemed to grow as her fingers brushed the cool metal. It was obvious he didn't want to speak with her. She exhaled softly and opened the door just enough for the puppy to bolt into the room after his owner. "He wanted you," she said into the void softly, but she was certain where ever Liam was inside, he heard her. "I... I can leave in the morning," she concluded, her voice cracking as she spoke. She lingered there for a moment trying to think of something else to say but eventually closed the door.

Sloane stood back up, shutting off the lights as she made her way over to the couch. She slowly lowered herself down onto it until she was sitting. To say she felt like a zombie might have been an exaggeration. She didn't want to leave but... She had no idea how to act with camp, her brother or Liam. For the short time she'd been staying in this cabin she knew something like this would have been inevitable but she didn't expect it to feel the way it did. Like whatever progress she made with herself was flaking away. That maybe she couldn't stop her brother or protect people from him. Or that she was this burden being passed around like hot potato.

But none of that was really what weighed on her mind, as much as that would be easier. It was Liam. Sloane hated how one person could confuse her so much in such a short amount of time. Before the party she had a clear image... But now everything was clouded. He was gentle with her and protected her like it was his job. It was almost like no one else mattered, until a blonde displaying herself caught his attention. Maybe Sloane was more like sad excuse for a sister in his eyes? But then he wouldn't have kissed her. Or maybe he wanted her to be like Eve, although she wasn't. No matter the questions or potential answers that rushed through her mind, it only seemed to muddy her thoughts more.

She didn't bother changing into something else to sleep in, instead laying back on the couch. A soft sigh escaped her lips before she rolled over, turning her back toward the room. She curled into a ball, bringing her knees to her chest and closed her eyes. Sloane wanted to sleep but her mind was anything but calm. There in the darkness, her hand slowly raised so that her fingertips could barely touch her lips. It was almost like the kiss still lingered there. Gods, what in the hell was she going to do?
