"Here, father, Aya made a flower for you!" Aya cut a flower out of some old clothes and decided to present them to her father. Her fingers were cut up from how she clumsily tried to cut the cloth to make it pretty. It wasn't very good, but Aya had already tried three different times, mutilating three different other shirts to try to make a pretty cloth flower for her dad to enjoy. "Didn't mother used to do this stuff too?" She remembered the old days when mother would buy fabric from the local trader and then cut pretty things using the fabric. Aya wanted to do it too, maybe it would bring a smile to her father's face. "Father?" He was staring listlessly out the window. Maybe he was busy?

Aya decided to traipse back to her room, limping on her pained leg to try to think of what to do. "Hmm, Aya wants to do something." She needed to be a good girl to make father happy. And once he was happy, she would ask permission again to go and join the Knights. It would be easy, Aya knew she could do it. All she had to do was do her best. But even when she opened a nutrient paste tube for him at noon he didn't respond. Even when she composed a pretty song for him he didn't respond. Even as the evening sun bloomed in the sky the Rubbles couldn't see, Aya tried to make father happy but he didn't even look her way.

Was she doing something wrong? Was she just a failure of a daughter? Whatever happened to a happy family? Aya just wanted to bring it back somehow. If she could bring a smile to his face then maybe mother would come back, maybe the real Aya would come home and they could all be together again. A true family, something like that was like a dream for Aya. "What are you doing?" He looked at her, a glare clear in his eyes. "I'm dressing up." Aya said with a bright smile, ruffling through mother's old room where her raggedy old dresses were. "I could dress like mother and make you happy!"

She didn't feel herself falling to the ground. Her eyes stared blankly at the ceiling as she smiled and the fist rained down. "Stop doing useless things. Just stay at home and be a good girl." He growled, pushing her down. She looked up at him and held her arms out, trying to hug her father. "I love you, father. I have a dream!" She said, her crooked leg hanging limp as she lay on the floor. "And what would that be?" She nodded and smiled. "I'm going to be a knight and find mother! Then she'll come home." She would bring life back to the broken Filia house.

"You're not leaving home." He growled, kicking her in the hip repeatedly. Over and over like a pendulum his foot smashed against her pelvic bone. She didn't understand, but she knew that it hurt. Even if it hurt, she would just be patient. Aya could think of it as training to become a knight. If she could endure this, she would make it, right? This was all just a test. "Get up." Father said, telling her to stand. Her entire side was purple, she was dizzy, she was bleeding. "Okay." She said, ragged breathing escaping her breath. She tried to stand only for her left leg to immediately collapse under her weight, sending her face first towards the floor. "Now you can't leave." Father said and picked her up. "Now I'll tuck you in for bed." She couldn't walk. What was she going to do now? Why wasn't her hip strong enough to survive being caved in?
