|| Girl Inside || Mika Kobayashi ||

Soft hands picked her up, the grip gentle. "Are you going to be a good girl now?" Father asked, looking right at her in the eye. She nodded, feeling dumbstruck at how pathetic she was. She was nothing more than a squid, than a broken piece of furniture no one wanted in their homes. She couldn't even properly pee, how could she be a good woman one day? How could she make a family if her own was like this? "Yes, Aya will be good." She said, blushing a little bit. "Life's going to be tough on you, but I'll always be here for you, Aya." Father said, looking gently at her. "I'll be your legs, I'll be your arms." Arms? What did he mean - there was a painful crack as Aya felt lightning shoot up her sides. Her arms went limp, becoming dangly noodles at her sides as he let go of her and placed her on a chair.

She couldn't walk, she couldn't even move anymore. Her breathing was harsh, she could barely suck air into her lungs now. "Good girl, just sit like that. You're so pretty, anyone would be jealous of a daughter like you." There was love in his eyes, was this love? Was this how to be a good girl? To become nothing more than a squid shaped doll? "Here, let's get you some food." Father retrieved some plates, placing four on the table as he always did. He squeezed the nutrient paste out into two of the bowls and handed it over, sliding it acorss the table. "Here you go, Aya. Why don't we eat together like a family now." She nodded, trying to move her arm to reach for the wooden spoon in her bowl but she couldn't. "Um, father, can you-"

He smiled warmly, moving close to her. "That's a good girl. Of course I'll help you." He helped her eat, and then he helped her go use the bathroom. "It hurts, it hurts to pee." She admitted, blushing deeply as he raised the skirt of her green dress to make sure it didn't get wet on the toilet. "What happened, dear?" He asked, narrowing his eyes. "Bad noble did it." Itward Cherubim did something terrible that she still didn't yet understand. "As long as you stay here with me, you'll never be hurt again." She nodded, knowing that to be true. Itward Cherubim was evil, but father loved her, even if he did it in a way no one understood.

It was getting closer to night now, and Aya was still hurting everywhere but father was being so nice to her so she didn't mind. She was tucked to bed, she even got to have a forehead kiss before he turned off the lamp. Then there was a sudden crash and Aya felt herself being scooped up again. A tuft of red hair - who was this? "Let's get you out of here. You're supposed to be my squire, aren't you?" Heron grinned, her rapier pushing father to the ground. "What? Who are you, let go of my daughter!" Heron narrowed her eyes dangeorously, pushing past him with Aya in her arms. "Daughter? You broke her, you old bat. I'm going to take care of her for now on, she's my squire!" How did Heron get here? "D-don't hurt him, he's good, he loves me." Aya murmured, trying to rub the sleep out of her eyes but her arm wouldn't move. "Love? This isn't love, cutie." Heron kicked the door open, there was a motorbike waiting, already revved up. "Let's take you to Cress, though who knew she was a prophet."

Confused, Aya closed her eyes, feeling herself drifting back to sleep.
