"Where are we going?" Winter asked as they got in the car. "To look at your new school," Janet replied. They had picked one already? Winter strapped in, nervous. She was wearing one of her new dresses and a cute beret. A new school meant new expectations, a new food chain, and possibly new challenges. The drive there was scenic, mostly on private roads and with beautiful houses. It was only 20 minutes, versus the 1 hour drive it took to get to the City Center. They drove through a gate with the school crest, Winter's eyes widening. A private academy? A woman waited at the foot of the steps to greet them, dressed in a smart looking blouse and skirt, her spectacles perched neatly on her nose. "Welcome, welcome!" She chirped, greeting them.
She clasped Winter's hand in her own. "You must be Ms. Matsuri, oh what a delight! I've heard so much about you." She shook Janet's hand as well, "And you must be her guardian," Janet nodded. They were shuffled inside, the halls quiet. Winter glanced at the plaque on the way in, making note of the name, her eyes widening a bit further. The Lovely Academy for Gifted Girls, a private, all girl's school. Winter knew of this place of course, they had sent her many letters, inviting her to come and visit, but she had been satisfied with her life at the City Center, up until now that is. "This is where your homeroom will be," the woman opened up a door where a class was in session. The girls were all sitting on bean bag chairs and giggling to one another. It stopped immediately when the door opened, upon which they gave Winter curious stares.
The next rooms they were shown were the music room, art room, and gym, even though Winter had a note from the Doc stating that gym class was absolutely not allowed. Outside was an Olympic sized swimming pool and horse stables, where girls in the equestrian program could choose to board their horses. They also had a small selection of pigs and sheep and a large green house. It was impressive, to say the least. The last thing they did on the tour was fit Winter for a uniform, then they were free to go. She would be starting next week and in the meantime, was given a packet of work to fill out, an aptitude test of sorts. "What do you think?" Janet asked, once they got back in the car. "It's nice," Winter admitted. "It's the kind of school most girls dream of getting into." She leaned against the seat as they drove back to the apartment.
"If you experience any issues with bullying, let me know right away." Winter nodded, "I know," she groaned, rolling her eyes. Janet suddenly stopped short, the car in front of them swerving in front of their path. "Hang on!" Janet threw the car into reverse. Winter looked around frantically, realizing they were being followed. What? Why? Winter didn't know. "Who are those people?" Winter asked, her nails digging into the arm rest. "I don't know," Janet dialed the emergency number. "This is 009 requesting back up. We're being tailed on the corner of 38th and Wrestly." They zipped through a parking lot, two cars following them on either side. Their windows were all tinted, an illegal move.
Was this a random attempt to car jack? Winter didn't know. She leaned back in her seat, her entire body shaking. She rolled down the window, sticking a hand out. "Winter, no!" It was too late, ice shot from her hand underneath the path of one car, the vehicle swerving and falling back. Janet grabbed her, pulling her hand back inside and rolling the window back up. "Don't do that again!" They lost the other car when they went into an underground parking lot, Janet waiting for backup. "You know I have to report unauthorized use of power."
"I know." Winter had taken a risk, she didn't want to know what could have happened if she hadn't done that. They could be a car sandwich by now.
