Rosie just sat and let Jaiden talk for a long as she needed. It felt like she was looking at the girl who had walked into her English class all those years ago, a shadow of herself, scared and uncertain. And Jaiden confirmed that was how she was feeling. Empty, unsure, afraid. She'd lost so much in such a short period of time, and Rosie had no idea how she was feeling. Rosie had never lost anyone, not in the same way Jaiden had. It broke her heart to hear that Jaiden blamed herself for it all.
"Jaiden... none of this is your fault, you hear me? You were trying to help, and that's what matters. And you did help, you saved lives. And that's what mattered. You tried, and you made a difference."Rosie said, reaching out to grasp Jaiden's hand. "It's not your fault that nobody ever taught you how to control it, that nobody ever helped. But Jaiden, it's not too late. We can't..." She took a deep breath. "We can't bring any of them back. As much as we want to. But you know what Markus would want? He'd want us to keep fighting. He'd want us to keep going, no matter what. And we don't have much of a choice. The world's going to move on, no matter what. And we're going to be there to greet it and kick it's ass if necessary. I... I can try and help you. I don't have a whole lot of experience with elemental magic but... I can try, or I can show you how to use a weapon. Or your fists. Whatever works, I'll work something out," she said with a grin, squeezing Jaiden's hand.
"You don't have to do anything you don't want to. But I saw a scared, shy girl come into my English class, and a few months later, I saw a young woman graduating with good grades and even better friends. You've been through hell before, and I think you'll get through it again. Just trust in your friends... and your English teacher," she said with a small shrug and a laugh. "And my place is always open. For tea, or to borrow some books or... well, anything. I'm only an okay cook so you probably could do better by yourself, but if you want dinner, you're welcome. Just... hiding isn't going to make anything go away. It's only going to make things worse. In return, you'll have to deal with me complaining about my freshmen or whatever papers I'm grading or my thesis supervisor or... whatever." In all honesty, Rosie needed this as much as Jaiden. Now that Trav was gone, she knew her house was going to be feeling empty, and she'd need a distraction. But she also needed to help. For Markus' sake, for everyone that had died in the attack. They had to do something.
