Dominicâs routine has leveled out even more than in the first week. His body was growing used to the stress of high intensity training, and he wasnât getting as sore after full days of training unless they were working a new skill. Heâd only spoken with his family a few times, though their attitude towards his training even when it was going successfully was still not encouraging. He decided to keep his contact to a minimum so it wouldnât affect his determination. All he was doing at this point was improving and he didnât want to take a step back.
Sapphire was settling in better after the hectic first week. She still had independent sessions with Agent Orinwell, as he was the most helpful when it came to building her ability to a higher level, but she was putting her all into the physical training. She was working on getting her running distance longer especially, as well as the amount of weight she could lift. It made her feel more powerful than she ever felt before. She didnât realize how out of shape she was until she had to get into hero service shape, which was a new level of exercise and discipline.
The combat training was making her realize just how little of her ability would be used in the field. When it came down to it, her ability didnât give her any outright advantages in battle. She was working on some gadgets that would assist her in combat, but she would have to fight her opponents and enemies with no enhancements like her teammates. And if she wanted to stay on this team, she would need to work on her weapon and combat skills even more than the rest of them. Thankfully, she had plenty of helping hands and wouldnât be in this alone.
Now all they needed was a chance to prove themselves. Dominic was practically itching to get out into the field on a mission and prove they were worth more than the scared kids that couldnât fight on their first day of training. Sure, he was a bit nervous that their opponents were out of their league, but he also tried to assure himself that their trainers wouldnât send them out to fail. There were plenty of heroes in the service to catch the criminals they werenât ready for.
Sapphire on the other hand, would happily spend the next few months in training before actually going into the field. She was having more nightmares than usual, and their main focus was a mission going wrong. She was mainly worried about being a burden on the field. She was proud of her new skills, but sometimes she felt like they didnât add up to her teammatesâ skills. She was still losing most of her combat battles as well, and didnât want to repeat that failure when their lives could be at stake.
She knew it was coming sooner than she wanted. The trainers were doing more simulations with them, and Agent Orinwell had asked her to work on unique communication devices for herself and her team members. She was sure the moment a villain stepped out of line and started causing havoc, they would be on the front lines of the battle.
âAll members of Team Alpha report in uniform immediately to the control room for mission debrief.â
She hadnât heard the overhead system since the first day so the loud alert jolted Sapphire, then she froze in her place as she processed it. Just as she was worrying about a mission again, theyâre called to one. Her hands were only lightly shaking as she got into her uniform for the first time. Sheâd designed it for hacking and covert, so it wasnât as flashy as usual heroes. But for her, a black turtleneck with black jeans and black boots was all she really needed, along with a black baseball hat and black aviators she loaded with technical abilities to complete the look.
Dominic had decided a navy bodysuit would be the best option for combat, and designed it with the help of his siblings to stand out as a hero. It got his heart racing, sliding the kevlar over his body and readying himself for his first battle as a hero.
The four teammates were in the control room with their trainers in full uniform and a mixture of emotions flooded the room. âThere is an ongoing attack on the North side of D.C. A former hero service trainee we have been tracking has decided to show herself. You are being deployed to help detain this criminal alive.
