Evelina giggled a bit as she saw Jeffrey’s facial reaction to being asked about himself, even though it wasn’t there long before he began to talk. She listened to him talk, one elbow on the table with her hand holding up her head while her other hand scooped up some foot. Eve turned her head a bit when he spoke about math and physics. A bit surprised, but that was mostly due to her not being exactly good, or even average, in math, and never even touching physics.
But what Jeffrey spoke about next did make her a bit jealous. Star gazing. It was only something she had only heard about online or in TV shows. With the light pollution in the city, it was hard to see stars at night, and Evelina never had the time, money, or transportation to head out of the city to see actual stars. So hearing Jeff talk about these things actually intrigued her, putting her fork down and staring at Jeffrey. Eve nodded when he said New York wasn’t the best place to stargaze, and talking about going over to Indiana. She also found it a bit cool that he wanted to be an astronaut. But letting out a bit of a giggle with his bike comment and saying to wear a helmet.
“An astronaut? That’d be pretty cool. I’ve never really thought of big goals like that. Like, I guess I wanted to be a teacher at some point, but got caught up with family things and just working a lot I sort of lost sight of that, you know?” Evelina glanced around, picking back up her fork and poking at her food. “Glad you like the food, as I said, one of my favorite places to go.” She continued, finishing her food and taking a sip of her coke.
One of the workers came by and grabbed their empty food containers, Evelina thanking them. “Hey, don’t laugh at me. But I’ve never really seen the stars. Like, I’ve seen some but nothing like you talked about…” She trailed off. “Never really had the -” Eve stopped herself, almost admitting not any money to do anything… “Time you know? To head out of the city, something I haven't actually done before. Star gazing would be cool to do one day...” Eve trailed off again, grabbing her notebook and putting it into her bag.
