The early hours seemed to be the quietest for the unsleeping city. Detective Fieldings had always been an early riser too, unlike his young partner. Victor did not stifle his loud yawn when he walked up to the other detective, an unmarked cup of coffee in his hand that let steam into the air. âYou must have found something good if youâre dragging me out here this early in the morning,â Victor grunted, taking a sip of the coffee and swearing under his breath when the scalding liquid hit his tongue.
Getting up early wasnât really the issue for Victor, it was more of a problem that he didnât fall asleep easily. Especially after joining the Dynasty, heâd already been awake a few hours before he was supposed to meet Hector. âThis took a lot for me to get, Victor. The chief doesnât know I have any of this, or that the Dynasty is in talks with the mayor,â Detective Fieldings warned him before settling a file and an USB in Victorâs hand. Victor raised his eyebrows at the other man at the seriousness of his tone, but a brief flip through of the folder made it very clear why; the documents he held in his hand could just as easily ruin the police chiefâs career as much as the mayorâs chance of being elected again. [color=#644351]âHector⊠this is a contract. Between Chief Howard and the mayor,â Victor still couldnât quite believe it, even seeing it with his own eyes. He didnât know what Detective Fieldings would bring when they met up today, but it certainly wasnât this.
The other detective explained that the mayor had formed a protective contract with the police chief that gave him immunity for his misdeeds. It was the very reason Chief Howard had told every deputy to call him directly for any situation involving the mayor. âYou ever wonder why the city police always got the most money from the budget? Thatâs how St. Claire bought his immunity. As well as a personal bank account for the Chief, if that wasnât enough. The Boston city police are on his payroll, and if you listen to the conversation on that USB, the Chief is willing to include the other police departments if St. Claire gets the senatorial seat. As long as he gets a pay raise,â Detective Fieldingsâ voice was laced with concern. Victor couldnât tell if he was concerned for the Chief and what heâd gotten himself involved with, or concern for himself if Victor handed over this information to the Dynasty. There was no question if he would, only when he could get an appointment with Theo.
âWe'll have to see how this plays out. If the Dynasty offers their protection, it could end up being beneficial for us,â Victor says with a sigh. Giving a mafia organization proof that the city police department was actively burying crimes committed by the city mayor was a risky move, but it was the kind of intel that heâd promised Theo in exchange for his life. He hadnât been keeping up his promise, which thankfully hadnât been brought up, but he didnât know how long that would last; the sooner he could prove his worth to the Dynasty, the better for his well-being. âJust⊠be careful, kiddo. Theyâve already put you in so much danger,â Detective Fieldingsâ warnings were waved off by Victor, who stuffed the USB into his pocket.
At Victorâs apartment, he made sure to look through the files and the USB to know exactly what he would be passing off to the mafia. There were a number of reports detailing numerous crimes the mayor was caught in: tax fraud, embezzling, even matters as small as traffic tickets. Anything that the police could hide, they did. The USB was a number of recorded conversations detailing the agreement, and several interrogations. It seemed that part of their agreement was that they needed proof of the crimes committed, possibly as leverage in case the mayor decided to turn. Ironically, that evidence would be the perfect leverage for the mafia to have the mayor - and a possible future senator - in their pocket.
It made Victor feel uneasy, giving this to a criminal organization, but he also needed to make a move with this important information. If he didnât do it, he didnât know when he would get another opportunity, and Theo could decide he was worth keeping around. A knot started to form in his stomach, and he ended up calling Jake before he came in. âIs there a reason we needed to talk before you came in?â Jake asked, and normally Victor would take it as a tease, but the tone was off. âWoah, you alright, Jake?â It took a lot to get Jake out of his usually chipper personality, but he didnât get an answer. Victor explained that he needed to meet with Theo over intel on the mayor he got from his informant.
âYou have dirt on the mayor? From the police?â Jake sounded a bit surprised, but he agreed to set up a meeting- so long as he and Salvi reviewed the information first and ânot waste Theoâs timeâ. Something was definitely bothering Jake, but Victor got his meeting with Theo, so he would just keep quiet for now.
