After an hour of google searches I seem to have finally located a superhero rpg that has yet to die. Needless to say I am pleased that the posting quality is quite high as well, for it is rare that I come across not only a living RP, but a good one. By previous posts in this thread I assume characters are still being accepted, so I submit the following. Please inform me if more detail is required.
Name: Alexander Waymann
Alias(es): Susceptor, Dr. Waymann
Age: 34
Physical Description: In his normal identity, that of Dr. Waymann, Alexander appears of average height and build for his age. He is clean shaven, with deep, impenetrable eyes and a neutral face that never betrays his emotions. His hair is somewhere between light brown and dark blond, and is neatly trimmed around his ears and the nape of his neck. It is long enough to be slightly curly, but short nonetheless. While at work he wears khaki pants, dress shoes, and a button-up shirt and tie. During leisure he prefers to wear jeans, sneakers, a t-shirt, and a fleece jacket.
When "in costume" Alexander wears a white hooded sweatshirt, white full-hand gloves, loose white pants, and brown leather hiking boots. All of the costume items are relatively thick because they contain ballistic gel, slowing sharp weapons such as knives, bullets, and swords and lessening the impact from blunt sources such as walls, clubs, or flagpoles. They are also interwoven with thin but prevalent strands of tar-based sealant and asbestos, granting resistance to heat, acid, and water as well as trapping heat. The parts of the costume connect seamlessly when donned, but Alexander can release the parts by mentally unweaving their connections.
Biography: From a young age Alexander was bright, inquisitive, and overly critical of his own mistakes. He had both a gift with words and a terrible memory, both of which made him rather famous among those he met. He was fascinated with history, and since his parents did not believe that television was good for anything at all he read anything and everything he could get his hands on, the dictionary included. As he progressed through school his knowledge grew, but his tolerance for the times in which he failed shrank. At age fourteen he often remembered and regretted terribly things he had done at age six, and despite going through counseling this fact did not change. Regardless he managed to graduate from his private high school with excellent grades, though not up to his own ridiculous standards, and attended Alfred University in his home state of New York, graduating with a double major in Latin and Roman History. He then taught both classes at several high schools across the northeastern United States, gaining teaching experience and a modest salary.
His luck truly perked up when he was invited to join an archeological expedition attempting to locate and excavate a city that had slid off the coast of Sicily during a volcanic eruption almost 3,000 years earlier. Though primarily concerned with the Romans he also knew a great deal about the groups that had inhabited the area before them, and his advice on Phoenician architecture and city planning proved instrumental in locating the underwater ruins. Surprisingly part of one of the temples had remained dry because its roof had trapped a small amount of air, leaving the magnificent paintings on it faded but legible. They depicted a shrine on the side of a vast mountain, with some sort of god-like being emerging from it as a black cloud. Realizing that no mountains matched the exact shape of the one shown and adding to that the black cloud, Alexander concluded that the shrine lay embedded in the side of the volcano.
Leaving the rest of the expedition to recover and catalog the many artifacts recovered from the site Alexander hiked up the blasted sides of the volcano. The mountain was no longer active, and due to the fertile volcanic soil deposited by the earlier eruptions it was overgrown by a vast forest of olive trees and grape vines. Though it took him many hours Alexander finally managed to reach the shrine, only to find the entrance blocked by a vast boulder. All his attempts to move it in vain, he prepared to depart and seek help. As he turned to leave patterns flashed through his mind, and he fell into unconsciousness. The next thing he knew he stood inside the very temple he had helped excavate, the only one with partially intact paintings. In the version he was in, however, all the paintings were perfectly intact, and the columns, altar, and gold statue of a many-armed deity sitting on a throne were undamaged.
As he looked around, marveling at the sight, he realized that the statue was, in fact, moving. Each of its four arms moved in a different pattern, equally mysterious and beautiful. The entity greeted him, identifying itself as "The Weaver" and thanking Alexander for bringing its city back to the known world. It was a spirit of moderate power that had long been absent from the world, and as a reward for its return it taught the young man how to use some of its powers. Soon after he awoke to find himself unharmed. The rock that had blocked the shrine still stood before him, but using his newfound powers he painstakingly unwove each particle of sand that composed it. Though it took him many more hours he managed to remove the obstacle and enter the shrine, discovering a smaller statue of The Weaver atop a stone altar. At the foot of the altar he discovered a roll of material somewhere between liquid and solid, ancient ballistic gel in thread form. Taking this with him he departed, preparing to return to the U.S.
Upon his arrival he discovered that the headmaster of the school he taught at liked the substitute better than he. Finding himself without a job he took the first possibility he could find: a college job in the infamous city of Blasted Haven. In the first month he witnessed seven robberies, twelve gang-related beatings, and a large amount of super-powered crime in addition to having his apartment broken into twice. Sickened by all the criminal activity Alexander decided to use the powers he had been keeping hidden for a worthy cause. Taking the name "Susceptor", which means "guardian" in Latin, he wove himself a costume and prepared to help uphold justice.
Powers: The Weaver granted Alexander the ability to weave and unweave non-living material, from the sand composing rocks and concrete to the fabric of clothing to the atoms of a fire extinguisher. The key disadvantage to the power is time. While he can weave the sleeves of a foe's knit sweater together instantly, manipulating the relatively large strands of fabric, it takes him a few seconds to weave together the sleeves of a polo shirt, as the strings are much smaller. Unweaving concrete can take several minutes, while breaking apart individual atoms can take hours. The exception to the rule is his costume, which he can always weave almost instantly.
Paraphernalia: Though he sometimes carries a bag of textbooks and usually has a few pens while at work, Alexander prefers to travel light while in costumed identity. If he finds something small he needs to carry he can just weave a pocket to place it in, but if it's too large for that he needs to carry it, keeping his hands free of other things.
Abilities: Alexander is knowledgeable about the ancient inhabitants of the Mediterranean, the Romans in particular, and speaks excellent Latin. He is a convincing orator with a powerful voice and knows a fair amount of criminal law (mostly the Latin terms).
