Supernatural Anime-esque Roleplay

Yo! What's up everyone? I recently made a role-play on this account for the fist time, but due to technical diifficulties on the sites end I was unable to approve characters which led to it never getting started. I am trying to revamp it at the moment but it looks slow going, however; while I do that I have decided to go ahead and toss a new idea around to see if anyone would be willing to participate.

The basic idea is to do a typical anime stuctural setup. There is a highschool where different kids all start experincing strange things in one form or another, and from that learn they have supernatural powers. The role-play will start slow with everyone being fairly weak and new to their powers, but as the role-play progresses and the challenges and enimies grow so to will our characters. It will span multiple arcs with brief breaks after each is completed to give us some down time, and if someone feels they are not up to continue they are presented with an oppertune moment to bow out that will not hinder RP. All that being said I will now outline the general premise.

Name: Each New Night

Premise:
On March 3, 2014 the first incident occured on the outskirts of Gekotauhn City. A young women was found murdered, her clothing removed and her limbs bent, broken, and distorted beyond belief. However; the most disturbing feature of her death was her face. An expression of sheer agony and terror was frozen in place, an expression so disturbing the coroner would not even allow her family memebers to see her body. In the weeks following her death more and more bodies began to appear.

Despite the deaths occuring, normal life continued for most. The duties of the everday outweighed the fear of these new night time terrors, and people did their best to put it out of their minds. For some this was as easy as turning off the news, but for others it was not. Those that had always had some connection towards the other side, those that have always known something else was out there, these people could not forget. Since the first death they had felt it. That small tug they had felt all their lives had turned into a constant yank while they lay awake each night. A change had begun inside them, and it was this change that would alter the course of Gekotauhn, and possibly the world, for the rest of eternity.

Now I know that the premise is sorta vauge and kind of shitty, but I do not want to reveal too much as of yet. I am sure most people that read this will be able to infer that, in-line with most anime of this type, this role-play will have some sort of demonic influence playing the part of the antagonist. Our characters will all be, at least at the start of the role-play, highschool students that were born with some sort of psychic connection to the other side, but due to the increasing number of supernatural presences have had their deeper latent powers begin to awaken.

This RP will have combat heavy elements at some points in the story, but I make it a point not to overly use combat scenarios in my RPs since they tend to get old and boring after a while. In this roleplay there should be enough different elements at play to drive along the story without needing to completely rely on fighting to do it for us.

As for powers, while I do intend to draw up a more detailed outline of the dos and donts of your characters powers if thie RP actually takes off I think it is important to go ahead and say what is exceptable so people do not get their hopes up for something that is unreasaonable.

The first thing about creating powers, and I think this is more or less a given, do not clone powers from other material. Try to be original. I know that is easier said than done, but if I seen someone that has powers just like Ichigo or Yuske Yurimeshi I wont even read the rest of your Character Sheet.

Next, and this is more or less a given too, do not make your powers to overpowered. At the start of the role-play you should have just discovered your powers and are still trying to understand them. Your not a master in their use, nor should the power itself be something unreasonably powerful. Try to think of something that can evolve with your character. Say for instance your character disovered that he has the power to manipulate an element like fire, it is easy to build from that since you can just change how well you control or how powerful the fire you summon is. Now that may be a bit generic but it is just to serve as an example. If you start the RP with some super beam attack that can wipe out a city block how are you supposed to evolve that as the RP progresses?

Another big thing with creating powers is picking something attuned to your character. More often than not in these role-plays you see a character made with powers that do not really fit them, such as a little girl that is strong enough to throw cars and stuff. That isnt happening here, pick powers that align with your personality. If you are a girl that was raised in a kendo dojo or a martial arts school it would be easy for you to incorporate that into your characters power, on the other hand if you are a guy that's just your average ordinary everyday student you better have a damn good reason your power is summoning some overpowered lightning sword.

All that being said I also do not want to see a full roster of young martial artists and samurais. There should be average students with average problems that want nothing to do with fighting monsters. Like an anime we should have a diverse roster of characters that grow closer and stronger as the RP moves along. There are two characters I would like to see made however.

The first would be one of the students having prior knowledge of the creatures our group will be fighting. His background doesnt really matter much, but he/she would already be fairly versed in the use of his powers and would serve as the rest of our guide during the first Arc of the rolepplay.

The next would be a half-youkai, or half-demon. I do not really know how I want her to play out, whether she is a student like the rest of us in hiding or if she will be of a taunting figure that appears throughout the RP. She does have to be female however, and she will be more of a side character than a realy part of the RP.

This sounds interesting and could be very entertaining. If you do get around to making it I'd gladly take part :)
