Surviving the post-holiday apocalypse.

Tips: 1.50 INK Postby Joseph_Bennett on Sun Dec 27, 2020 2:09 pm

Heya, people of RPG! Joe here!
You may be seeing the title, and either wondering what I'm getting at, 'cuz it's only two days after Christmas at the time of this post.
I'm hoping that this is recieved as a comedic post, but I really dunno. I've only been here for about a year, so I hope that this can be considered appropriate for the RPG forum, but it really doesn't have much to do with roleplay at all, or info regarding RP. I know not everyone celebrates the same holiday, but hey, still hoping this comes across as funny, even mildly so.
Here I go, I guess.

I usually love the holidays, at least for the past eight years I was intelligent enough to appreciate them for what they are, and this being only the 13th I've lived through, and the C19 shid as well, I dunno what I was expecting.
Christmas eve, I spent the whole day excited to get to spend the next day with my family, and get to give my sister her christmas present, mainly because she's literally happy about EVERYTHING. I checked my posts here, nothing, unsurprisingly. Who writes a post on Christmas Eve? I think I did. Dunno. My family always plays Monopoly in the holiday season, which for some reason my Mother thinks is more serious than nuclear warfare, and her tactics get pretty specifically targeted towards me, for some reason. Three aggravating and soul-crushing games later, my hope was perfectly ruined in both the economic system and my ability to play board games.
Anyways, I go to bed, then the next day arrives.

I sleep until almost 9 AM, and was quite literally slapped awake by my gift-hungry younger sister, desperate to get to her presents. I get up, trip over a book, and then continue into the living room to see that on the couch lays a stocking for each of my family members, and then there's a giant frakkin' TV with my name scrawled on it. My initial confusion was replaced with joy and then dread as I realize that this thing is probably going in my bedroom, but I don't have ANY wallspace, as my walls are covered in NASA and National Geographic posters, and it would be damn near sacriligious to take down any of them, as they've been there since I was eight. Call me emotionally attached, but the clashing themes of cowboy decorations from when I was six, dinosaurs from even before that, and the astronauts are so damn nostalgic that I would rather BURN than take them down.
The things in my stocking were rather normal for a Christmas, except for this weird Joseph Biden figurine that my Father, for some boomer/conservative reason found hilarious.
The other highlight was the Oculus Quest 2 from my parents, which I only felt guilty about because I only got them books on cooking and American history.

I'm going to write more in about a day or maybe in a little while, sorry to cut off so abruptly. Feel free to comment!

Edit: is post-post regret a thing? I feel like this is more of a sudden need to write something, rather than an attempt at a comedic story. I dunno. Lol.
Yours Truly,
Joseph Bennett

"I must not fear. Fear is the mind-killer. Fear is the little-death that brings total obliteration. I will face my fear. I will permit it to pass over me and through me. And when it has gone past I will turn the inner eye to see its path. Where the fear has gone there will be nothing. Only I will remain."
-Frank Herbert, Dune.
