Technology

a part of “Canopy”, a fictional universe by ranaravel.

The parasitic spread of humanity has polluted many worlds since our ascension to the stars. This is the story of E-A-743, and it's tree-human hybrids that fight back.

This page: Technology designed and used in the roleplay Canopy

This thread operates on a 'post per technology' basis. Once a technology has been submitted, you might receive a PM from either myself or VindicatedPurpose explaining a problem that we'd kindly like you to fix. If you don't receive a PM, that means the tech is good to go!

Canopy is an outpost world without much governmental attention from outside. As such, there is a lack of the newest inventions, and as they are 150 yrs without communication from any other human, they may be falling technologically behind as a result. However, they are not a colony without tech, some far removed from what we are capable of today, and some that we might recognise.

Please remember the general themes that you might have read throughout the forum whilst creating a new technology, and remember to be as detailed yet simple as possible! (Very) general themes: Think technology along the same aesthetics as Alien or Bladerunner, mixed with some sleeker designs. Practical technologies are a must for colonists, they can't spend money and time with technology that's frothy or light- they need useful things. Don't be afraid to create and deviate, however. We won't bite, and I'm open to suggestions. :)

Some examples:
    > Communication technology
    > Standards of living technology
    > Transport
    > Computers, robots...

Please note that there are no sentient androids/computers. There has been no machine uprising, and computers are only what a human makes them. So far in human history, computers have not gained sentience. However, there is nothing to stop an individual from creating a sentient computer on Canopy through the roleplay process... I'll leave that little thought there.

Z-particles:
Image[Standard Issue for Colonists] A wonder of the modern age, Z-particles are the lifeblood of the millions of colonists across the Galaxy. The material is a thin, grey water stored in containers. Virtually useless for life on board a ship, the material becomes necessary once a base is established on the coloniser's planet.
Basically a thickening agent, Z-particles can be added to mulched dead material like wood, soil and mud to make solid, long-lasting walls much like concrete. They can be added to mulched living material, like plantlife to create strong, long-lasting material which can be made into clothes, tents, etc. It can be added to water where it acts as a water purifier.
Z-particles are essentially a mix of a water-like solvent and nano-bots, which are all programmed to:
    a) Purify water
    b) Strengthen bonds
The nano-bots last for as long as there is some light from a star/nearby sun, and as they are powered by miniature solar panels, the material they create has a slight metallic sheen.
*Please note! Z-particles are not safe to drink by themselves (without prior being added to water), or eat in any form.

Most, if not all the containers of Z-particles were used to create houses, buildings, and fabrics during the first 20 years of landing on Canopy. 150 years later during current events, there are no raw Z-particles left. Most are purposed into metallic-sheen-like buildings near the center of the City, or are made into the uniforms of the Explorer's Guild and the military-police. There is never any need for repairs, as long as they are fed mulched plantlife or mud from time to time.
