The Death of Innocence

The outside hides all that's within
Old loves die as new ones begin
Hope and beauty have passed away
All the colors have turned to grey
Benign brutality sheds its skin
Flesh and bone rot with sin
Shooting crows with a plastic gun
Powerless to change what I've done
Draw her blood with a frozen knife
Are we as lonely in death as we are in life

Planting seeds in a sea of stone
By the taste of a lie the truth is known
All that was has grown astray
April fades and turns to May
Savage lust and gentle love
The stars grant passage from far above
Dance to the sound of a soft drum-beat
Broken hearts cutting under my feet
Rob her heart without a care
A moment of joy is found to be rare

Chasing ghosts on a horse of fire
Balance the world on a copper wire
Fleeting dreams of days gone by
On wings of an eagle I wish I could fly
Sit in the rain and count the drops
Run through a field of tall crops
Build a home of bones and clay
Hide from the monster for another day
Wish the stars a sleepy night
And cry in her arms until dawn's early light...

-Michael J. Saulnier, 23/10/08
"Love is long-suffering and kind. Love is not jealous, it does not brag, does not get puffed up, does not behave indecently, does not look for it's own interests, does not become provoked. It does not keep account of the injury. It does not rejoice over unrighteousness, but rejoices with the truth. It bears all things, believes all things, hopes all things, endures all things."
—I Corinthians 13:1-7
