Long ago, a group of French settlers came across a large plot of land on the shore. On the land was a singular home, simple and plain in appearance. Out of that home came a neatly dressed man in a black suit, greeting the visitors with enthusiasm and kindness. He told them that they could settle here and stay for as long as they pleased. "This land is paradise. You shall have everything and anything that you desire" The settlers were overjoyed to hear the news, but the man had a warning for them. He pointed to a small island a little away from them. It was densely forested, and a wooden bridge laid in-between them and the island.
"You shall maintain this bridge for as long as you live here, but never shall you build anything in the forest of that island. It is my forest and you may visit it, but not a single tree nor bush shall be struck down from it"
The settlers found it odd at first, but they agreed. The land was unusually fertile, providing the villagers excellent harvest. The people were happy, living long and healthy lives. They named their land 'Eden' and the island across the bridge 'Eden Isle'. Eventually the man in the black suit would disappear, but no one ever dared to disturb the tranquility by building anything across the bridge, heeding his warning still. Generation through generation, the story would be passed down. The bridge would remain maintained for decades. It seemed that everything was perfect on Eden, paradise would be the best word to describe it.
Several years would pass, most all of the original settlers of Eden slowly dying off. They would pass Eden and the island off to newer generations. Eventually, the tale of the man in the black suit would become nothing more than a story. The bridge still remained maintained, but his warnings seemed to mean little more than a wise-tail to the occupants of the town.
One day, the occupants of the town would be approached by an outsider. He brought with him large suitcases and promises of wealth and glory. The townspeople called for their leader, Adam. As Adam and the man discussed, his motives became clear. He wanted to build a home across the bridge, on Eden Isle.
At first refusing, Adam remembered the tradition of the town and the story of the man in the black suit. The outsider attempted to persuade him, offering him vast amount of money for the land. Swayed by his greed and imperfections as a human, Adam agreed. No longer heeding the man in the black suit's warning, they allowed the outsider to build his home.
As soon as the first tree was cut down, strange occurrences began. Children crossing the bridge would go missing and strange and horrifying howls would be heard from the island. The outsider would never return to Eden, seemingly disappearing within the island, leaving only the cabin behind.
Slowly but surely, residents of Eden realized what they had done-
They had unleashed hell upon themselves
Monsters ran free on the island, any visitors being enveloped by the horrors of the forest. Once entering the island, it was impossible to leave. The bridge disappearing behind you until another visitor came and became trapped as well. Eden slowly decayed, the harvest dying and sickness spreading throughout. The occasional monster would slip across the bridge, tormenting the residents of the town.
The villagers stayed in Eden, forced to face the consequences of their actions. What was left behind was a desolate, sad village, occupied only by a few handfuls of villagers. Adam was left to witness what he had done-
What was once paradise, was now their own personal slice of hell-
