a part of “Reviving the Gods”, a fictional universe by cielo-drago.

Japanese Mythology
The four patron gods that are prominent in this culture are:
Izanagi: The creator of Japan & Father of Amaterasu, Tsukuyomi, and Susano'o
Izanagi is said to create the islands of Japan with his wife Izanami as they looked for a place to give birth.

Amaterasu: The sun and fertility goddess, "She who brings light to this world." Associated with jewels.
Amaterasu was born when Izanagi washed his left eye after his visit in Yomi.

Tsukuyomi: The moon good, associated with mirrors.
Tsukuyomi was born when Izanagi washed his right eye after his visit to Yomi.

Susano'o: The storm and sea god, associated with wind and rain.
Susano'o was born when Izanagi washed his nose after his visit to Yomi.

The Goddess of Creation and Death, Izanami
Izanami is the wife and sister of Izanagi. She helped create the Islands of Japan, only to die when giving birth to a deity. She swore vengence against Izanagi when he broke his promise to her by killing humans and creating the reason why people die. She currently is sealed within Yomi, and has made multiple demons in order to curse the humans, who Izanagi treasures very much.

The Creation Myth
The islands of Japan was created by Izanagi, and his wife and sister Izanami. Using the holy spear, he created the islands of Japan in order to allow Izanami to give birth to the multiple deities of Japanese mythology. Their last son together was Kagu-Tsuchi, a fire deity who burned Izanami to death. Izanagi killed the fire deity when Izanami died, and traveled to Yomi, the land of the dead, in an attempt to take Izanami back to the living.

He found Izanami in the dark world of Yomi, and asked her to come back with him to the living world. But, she had to ask for permission, since she had already eaten in this world, binding her to there forever unless she asked for permission to leave from the rulers of Yomi. After convincing, Izanami agreed to ask for permission under the agreement with Izanagi he would not look at her body, and just wait for her. He agreed, and began to wait.

Time passed by, and she still was not back yet. Worried for her well-being, he lit his comb on fire and saw her rotting, maggot-covered corpse. The once beautiful Izanami was hideous to look at. Izanagi heard a cry of outrage as Izanami returned, and Izanagi fled Yomi, leaving her behind. First she sent the thunder deities after him, and then she herself pursued him. At last he grasped a huge rock and used it to close the passage to the underworld. Enraged, she shouted to him that she would each day strangle one thousand people of Japan. He responded that if she did so, he would each day cause fifteen hundred Japanese people to be born.
