The Liminal Academy

The Liminal Academy: Classes

a part of “The Liminal Academy”, a fictional universe by Morgan_R.

The Liminal Academy has three doors: one on the floating sky-island of Aeolia, one in Shadowtown beneath, and one that does not open under any circumstance. For those who can pay the price, it is the greatest academy of magic in the Known World.

The Liminal Academy: Classes

Tips: 0.00 INK Postby Morgan_R on Wed Jan 01, 2014 10:39 pm

So, with first-year classes only, I get:

Alchemical Potions
Forces of Nature
Basic Healing
Summoning
Illusion Magic
The Art of Magic
Working with the Post-Animate
Self Defence
Unarmed Combat
Bladed Weaponry
Blunt Weaponry
Archery

Let me know if I've missed anything, or if you object to the creative liberties I've taken with the name of your class(es). ;)

Might not be the right word... I was just thinking about summoner's circles and other means of making sure the summoned entities don't, y'know, get loose and run rampant. XD

Those might be considered as Contracting / Mastering a summon, entities that are still able to rationally come to a compromise with a beginning summoner. Binding it sounds a lot less safer (oh look ma, I bound the great demon lord to our family estate! He's going to guard us until the end of days! Didn't even need to sign a contract. He does what he wants!). If that were to happen, Katherine would find it easier to undo the summon / banish the summoned monster / obliterate it with a few of her own monsters.

After all, she doesn't want anyone making the same choices as she did, whatnot with allowing monsters without any control to roam the earth...

Summoning and Contracting, then? Or would you prefer just Summoning?

And are you okay with Luthien's 'politically correct' renaming of Necromancy? XD

Actually, in second-year or advanced classes, (optional, this time, as the necessary healing potions part of the class is over,) could Mortimer teach a bit of the darker side of material arts? I.E. making magic charms and talismans, not in the enchant-ey kind of way, but making it from ingredients, and then using it for a distinct purpose, rather than just broadly using it as a healing utensile or a stat booster? Such activities would include making superior tools, creating wards and such from organs or petrified plants, (And the process of petrifying said plants) and even more primitive things like scarification, the study of pouring fluids into your wounds which creates an enchanted scar, which will increase some aspect of you, if done right.... (But you REALLY don't have to practice scarification if you don't want to, that's just an option because that's what material mages and Alchemists do sometimes... In fact, because it involves the removal of clothing, Mortimer highly discourages doing it outside the comfort of a private corner.) I'm thinking of calling it Higher Alchemy/Black Alchemy.

Considering as to what I have for Mortimer isn't very insidious as it is a bit of black humor here and there, the advanced alchemy class is probably how he's attained his rumors... Don't worry, the students aren't going to be in considerable danger unless something goes horribly, horribly wrong. (Like rolling a 1 in old-fashioned D&D, where that would cause horrendous, highly unlikely failure, E.G. "Your crossbow instead fires backward, and it breaks, all the while sending the bolt plummeting through your bowels, doing a ton of damage and giving you a permanent negative buff due to complications and indigestion hereafter!")
So this is how signatures work? Hmm... What should I put here?

Oh hey I can actually post from my phone. :D

So yes, Mondieu, that sounds good! It'll be off-screen for a while, though. But it would be cool if we can get to year two and beyond. Maybe we can do some timeskips and make it happen eventually. :)

Whoops, thanks!

Just putting down one class for now, if sign-ups mandate splitting it then we can go basic/advanced.
