This is a list of all the subspecies of Others. I have provided a lot of different options for you to choose from as well as a description of each subspecies. The descriptions include brief/generalized personality and appearance traits, but by no means are these concrete rules you have to follow. I do not want to create your character for you after all. The abilities for each species must remain unchanged, but you can play with the personality and appearance of your character however you'd like. Also, if there is an animal you would like to use that is not part of this list, let me know! I would be happy to discuss it with you and add it to this list so long as the new species has it's own unique powers.

The Wings

“A power of Butterfly must be -
The Aptitude to fly
Meadows of Majesty concedes
And easy Sweeps of Sky -”
― Emily Dickinson

═══════════════════════════

The Wings are perhaps one of the most delicate subspecies of Other that exist, however, that does not mean they should be underestimated for they posses rather dangerous abilities. As the butterfly subspecies, The Wings are half butterfly-half human. This means that a Wing's Familiar comes in the form of a dainty butterfly of any color, size, or shape.

Spotting a Wing can be rather tricky, as their small, hide-able, Familiars allow them to blend rather seamlessly among humans. However, there are some common physical traits that Wings posses, which set them apart from humans in subtle ways. For starters, Wings are often petite in size with a sense of delicacy about them, much like a butterfly itself. They are also generally more attractive then humans in a subtle, but noticeable way, making it rather easy to become captivated by their beauty.

In fact, one of a Wing's main gifts is the ability to captivate. Using a mixture of eye-contact and a certain, smooth tone of voice, a Wing can gain control over a person's will. This power of persuasion is rather useful and but also has the potential to be deadly. Typically, the spell of a Wing is temporary, lasting only a few hours before wearing off, however, if the Wing seals the trap with a kiss, the spell never fades. The poor victim will become bound to the Wing forever, unable to live without them. Should the Wing abandon it's victim, the victim will go mad with obsession, wither away, and die within a year.

Apart from this, Wings also possess the ability to fly. All a Wing has to do is will it, and large gossamer wings matching their Familiar's will sprout from their shoulder blades, allowing them to fly. However, despite having wings, their flight is rather limited as, unlike the Feathers, their wings are not powerful and sturdy. A Wing is not built for long, vigorous flights so they must either make short flights only, or stop to rest every so often.

Finally, as with all Others, Wings have the ability to join into one being with their Familiar and take on the form of a butterfly.

The Felines

“The smallest feline is a masterpiece.”
― Leonardo da Vinci

═══════════════════════════

The Felines are mysterious species of Other. They tend appear rather small in stature, but one should not underestimate them. They can be quite powerful in less obvious, destructive ways then some of the other species, making them rather useful to have around. The Felines are a rather elusive species that are hard to get a hold of, so the American government has only been able to get it's hands on a few Felines powerful enough to be useful.

When it comes to demeanor, the Felines tend to be solitary, aloof creatures. They tend not to enjoy socializing, and can, at times, have very poor social skills. They are brilliant creatures with eyes that speak of wisdom and secrecy, for every Feline seems to be hiding some something powerful and dangerous.

Physically, they are certainly not the largest creatures, or most powerful, but that does not mean they are incapable. They may be small, but Felines have incredible balance and dexterity as well as nearly perfect night vision. They are one of the most nimble and lithe species of Other there is, giving them the powers of stealth and swiftness.

Aside from having enhanced agility, Felines also have other, more magical gifts as well. One such gift, is the power to see far off places and times. If a Feline looks into a clear surface, such as glass or water, they can see visions of either the past, present, or future. The clarity, length, and importance of these visions depend on how powerful the Feline is, for it can be a rather difficult power to control. The most powerful Felines, can even receive visions spontaneously, without looking into a clear surface.

Besides this, Felines can create unbreakable force fields, and place them around almost anything, even thoughts and feelings. These force fields stay until the Feline who created them wishes them to be gone. They can be literal, as in an invisible wall blocking bullets, or figurative, like the ones placed around thoughts, keeping Slys, other Felines, Packs, and such away. Only the Feline who created the field may walk through it or break it.

Finally, The Felines have the ability become one with their Familiar, which comes in the form of a sleek cat.

The Prides

“Lion, lion golden spun
in savannahs of the sun,
What immortal eye, or hand
weaves beasts from dreams,
sews sky to land?”
― Christyl Rivers

═══════════════════════════

The Prides, of all the Others, are by far the most mighty and fearsome. Their physical strength is unmatched by any other species, and on top of that, they are also the most intimidating visually. They're such a powerful species as they are a fusion of human and the mighty lion.

Pysically, Prides are often strong and well-muscled, with an air of authority and power about them. They typically stand taller than the other species, and move with perfect balance. They're not quick like the Felines, because they're larger, but they are certainly mighty.

Their demeanor tends to be rather hot headed. Prides have a lot of energy, and often, this energy can be dangerous. Especially if it's channeled into anger. Prides just seem to have very hot, fiery tempers and extremely competitive spirits. They enjoy being around their own kind, and can often be found in groups, however, they generally try to avoid the other Species's if possible.

A Pride's powers reflect both their appearance and temperament. Their most obvious power is the power of brute strength. They are the strongest of all the Other's and can break through nearly anything with very little effort. This can mean major destruction when a Pride is enraged, for often, it can be easy for them to forget their own strength. Their second power, matches their hot-headed personalities perfectly for a Pride can also start fires with it's mind.

Finally, Prides also have great intuition. This power does not go so far as premonitions or visions, like a Feline, but they can almost "sense" when danger is near, and have the ability to keep their heads when everyone around them is panicking. Prides are often leaders, but some, less powerful Prides prefer to be followers. Nonetheless, Prides are one of the most powerful of the mutations, and are a force to be reckoned with.

Finally, as all Others, the Prides can become one with their Familiar, morphing into the shape of a mighty lion.

The Stripes

“The shadows of twilight grow,
And the tiger’s ancient fierceness
In my veins begins to flow.”
― William Wetmore Story

═══════════════════════════

The Stripes are an interesting species of Other. They are rather secretive. So secretive, in fact, that it's hard to track how many are in existence. They're considered a rare species, however, it is thought that they may not be as rare as they seem to be, simply because they are so good at avoiding humans. They are a mixture of human and tiger, making the Stripes both fearsome and mysterious.

When it comes to temperament, Stripes tend to be rather calm, down to earth creatures. This however, should not be mistaken for friendliness, for they are the silent, but deadly type. They are very solitary, preferring to live alone unless they absolutely must live among others. Much like a Pride, they have great strength and power, while at the same time, they have Feline-like agility and stealthiness.

When it comes to appearance, Stripes can be rather intimidating to look at sometimes. Much like Prides, they tend to be muscular and well-built, however, they are not quite as large as the Prides. Their slightly smaller size gives them more agility then the Prides have, though they do have to sacrifice a bit of strength.

As for abilities, the first, is their uncanny strength. They are much stronger then any human ever born, though still not quite as strong as a Pride. They also have enhanced stamina, speed, and agility to go with this strength, making them very dangerous. Stripes also have the strange ability to manipulate water (and ice) to their will using only their mind. This ability is believed to stem from a tiger's love for water, for they are one of the only species of cat that actually like water and they are very good swimmers.

Finally, Stripes have the power of invisibility, allowing them, and anything they are touching to become completely invisible for however long the Stripe wishes. The Stripes last ability, like all Others, is the ability to become one with their Familiar, allowing them to take on the shape of a beautiful tiger.

The Feathers
“I love the freedom of my wings. I love the empty space above the ground. I rejoice in my freedom. Freedom is my religion. Peace is my God. Love is my worship.”
― Banani Ray, World Peace: The Voice of a Mountain Bird

═══════════════════════════
If you choose a Feather species not here, please contact (PM or OOC) me about powers.

The Feathers are perhaps the most common of all species. This is due to the fact that, of all the species, the Feathers, are the most diverse group. They can be anything from powerful and swift, to delicate and beautiful. It all depends on the Familiar. Because of this diversity, they can also be very difficult to pick out in a group of humans, for their Familiar is that of a bird, and can be perched anywhere, indistinguishable from a normal bird.

The diversity of this species makes it hard to generalize them, however, there are a few physical attributes that almost all Feathers seem to posses. They can be of any build or body size, depending on their specific species of bird, but they move with grace and are very vigilant creatures. Some may even have what some call "bird-like" facial features.

When it comes to their abilities, the Feathers have the most range. The powers of a Feather depend on the species of his/her Familiar. They tend to emulate the bird's attributes. For example, the wisdom and elusiveness of the owl is reflected in the owl Feather's ability to pick up knowledge simply by touching an object, allowing them to know everything that has ever happened to that said object (including people). And owl Feather also has the ability to manipulate a person's mind to a certain extent, allowing them to plant ideas, or even briefly control weak-minded individuals.

Another example, is the raven Feather. This sub-species of Feather has the power of stealth, due to it's dark, almost ominous nature. They have the ability to blend with, as well as manipulate shadows as well as an ability to briefly bring a corpse back to life, as to learn information from it. The raven Feather may also see and commune with ghosts of the dead.

Finally, all Feathers have the ability to morph with their Familiar to take the shape of a soaring bird. They also have the ability to sprout large, beautiful feathered wings from their back on command. These wings are heavy-duty, unlike the Wings, meaning they can use them for long, vigorous flight.

The Slys
“...To survive
we'd all turn thief
and rascal, or so says the fox,
with her coat of an elegant scoundrel,
her white knife of a smile,
who knows just where she's going:
to steal something
that doesn't belong to her -
some chicken, or one more chance,
or other life.”
― Margaret Atwood, Morning in the Burned House

═══════════════════════════

The Slys are a slick breed of mutation, as hard to control as the Packs, as solitary as the Stripes, and as smart as the Felines, Slys are a force to be reckoned with, even if their appearence doesn't suggest it. Due to their elusive nature, it is hard to tell exactly how common they are, for they don't like to be counted and most of them hate or distrust humans, preferring to stay far away from them.

Physically, Slys do not appear to be intimidating. They are often petite in size with sleek, beautiful features. This appearance allows them slip under people's radar and appear non-threatening, when in fact, they are extremely dangerous. Slys are also generally very graceful and agile due to their light form, making them very tricky to catch in a chase and very apt at doing the chasing.

As far as a Sly's general character traits go, the best way to describe them would be to say that they are clever. They tend to be very intelligent creatures, both practically, and emphatically. They're good liars, as they seem to have silver tongues, allowing them to talk their way into, or out of nearly anything. Some would say a Sly's enhanced intellect is a power in and of it's own, for they seem to be able to soak up huge amounts of information like a sponge.

As for abilities, Slys are rather tricky creatures. Their first power is that of teleportation. They can instantly appear anywhere in the world, simply by visualizing the place or thinking of the name. This is a very useful power, however, it can be exhausting after several teleportation so they cannot keep it up very long. Slys also have the ability to read minds. They can pull thoughts from the heads of others, as well as send them, making it easy for a Sly to examine you and find your strengths and weaknesses. However, this power does not work on other Slys, or those with very resilient minds, for there is a such thing as "mind training" to protect your head from Others that have mind reading abilities.

Finally, Slys have the gift of allusion. By making contact (eye or physical) with their subject, a Sly can manipulate thoughts, feelings, memories, and sensations within another's head. This is a gift only very powerful, well-practiced Slys have complete control over, however for it can be a tricky power to command. Lastly, as with all Others, Slys can take on the form of their Familiar, a sleek, clever fox.

═══════════════════════════
The Packs
“To run with the wolf was to run in the shadows, the dark ray of life, survival and instinct. A fierceness that was both proud and lonely, a tearing, a howling, a hunger and thirst. Blessed are they who hunger and thirst. A strength that would die fighting, kicking, screaming, that wouldn't stop until the last breath had been wrung from its body. The will to take one's place in the world. To say 'I am here.' To say 'I am.”
― O.R. Melling

═══════════════════════════

The Packs are a strong, family-oriented breed. They are wild creatures, that can be hard to tame through government programs, but they are not, by any means, solitary creatures. Packs often have strong family-units and prefer to live away from humans, in the wild where they can live on their own terms, in their own societies. It's rather savage sometimes, but that is because a Pack is the melding of man and the wild wolf.

Physically, Packs tend to have a wild, but at the same time dignified look to them. The way they walk and their features tend to display both power and savagery. Packs range in size, though they do tend to have more strength and well toned bodies then humans typically do.

There are many character traits that Packs tend to share because they are typically raised in their own environment among their own kind, learning their own ways and traditions. First of all, Packs are very loyal and family-oriented. They are definitely not solitary creatures. In fact, a Pack's worst fear, is usually not belonging to a group. That being said, should they belong to a group, they are so loyal, they would willingly risk their lives for the group and care deeply about every member included in the group. Despite this slight emotional side, however, Packs also have wild, savage hearts, making them fierce competitors, for they love competition, and love winning even more.

The Packs, though lost without companionship, are a fearsome breed, with as much courage as a Pride. They have enhanced stamina, as well as strength, much like a Stripe, but that is not all they wield. Because they need people around them to feel comfortable, Packs have the power to sense people. This means that Packs are able to sense where people are, and what they are doing, their beings and even their emotions. A Pack can also bend a persons emotions to his or her will, as well as read thoughts, making them dangerous both mentally, and physically.

Finally, as with all Others, Packs can meld with their Familiar to take on the shape of a fearsome wolf.

ImageImage
═══════════════════════════

The Humans
“But if I'm it, the last of my kind, the last page of human history, like hell I'm going to let the story end this way. I may be the last one, but I am the one still standing. I am the one turning to face the faceless hunter in the woods on an abandoned highway. I am the one not running but facing. Because if I am the last one, then I am humanity. And if this is humanity's last war, then I am the battlefield.”
― Rick Yancey, The 5th Wave

═══════════════════════════

It is rare, indeed for a human to associate his/herself with an Other. In society, they are viewed as freaks, flukes of nature. The humans shun the Others, pushing them to the edges of their minds, acting cruel to them. The Others are not allowed citizenship in any country, and are not allowed to work or go to school, so it is very uncommon to see an Other walking openly in a human crowd.

As such, there is a huge segregation between Others and humans. In fact, it is so extreme, that the Others often prefer to live in villages and societies entirely their own, even though they know it's risky as the government destroys these places often to keep Others from gathering and getting rebellious ideas.

The general population does not know the full extent of atrocities the government commits against Others, they simply believe the situation is being handled, and so they turn their heads, and pretend not to notice any "ugliness" within their own systems. Some believe, if the human population would just wise up to what's going on, there may be a chance at peace between the two species.

However, despite all this betrayal and downright cruelness, there are a few sympathetic humans out there. A few humans who are willing to put aside differences, and care for a mutant child, or stick up for a bullied mutant. Whether they be fully human, or human-Other hybrids, (Humans that posses one of the powers of an Other species, but no Familiar), there are a few brave humans who have stood up and pledged loyalty to the Revolution.
