Is there 'Life on Mars'?

Yes there is, Life on Mars is probably the best TV cop show ever. Okay so I fear that all you Americans will never get the chance to see it but if by chance you see it advertised on some unregarded cable or satellite channel, watch it. I don't want to give away much but take a modern police man and send him back to 1973. As a synopsis that is pretty poor. It really is worth watching, for me it is a lot of memories of the time, I was growing up back then in the north of England not far from where it is based and it has great nostalgia but aside from that the acting from John Simm is first class as is that of all the supporting cast. It is remarkable as John Simm is in almost every scene of nearly 8 hours of television, almost unheard of. I thoroughly enjoyed it first time round and am again on DVD, I have even gone so far as to copy the entire thing to the iPod for enjoyment on the move.

hey dude. think the show MIGHT have been aired on the ABC (*AMERICAN* broadcasting co.)under a different name, but I can't be sure. however, I HAVE watched the entire first season on the AUSTRALIAN broadcasting co. ;) it was really good.

well, to not spoil it, it starts off as essentially 'the Bill' which is another English cop show that I do NOT like.
the main character who's name I can't remember, gets hit by a car after pulling over, and wakes up in 1973. the policing aspect becomes much grittier, and for people with NO experience with the 70's will NOT get what they 'expect' from that timeline. there's sex and violence aplenty (enough to apparently give it an MA15+ rating over here.), and the character has to deal with his new job at the police station he worked at 30 years later, and the realizing that he's either insane, or in a coma.

it's a great show, but definitely not for the minors, as the violence is relatively low core, the Sex scenes aren't, and an(I think LAST) episode in the series even features brief clips of Porn tapes. (confiscated by the police, which they seem to be intent on Studying intently.

certainly I recommend picking up the season 1 boxset (I haven't seen season 2 yet, not sure if its out 'over the pond' yet. =p), but if you're considering getting something to watch with the kids, either watch a couple episodes by yourself first, or make sure your kid is Mature enough. ;)
