I think I need ZFA: Zelda Freaks Anonymous

Tips: 0.00 INK Postby Angel_Melfina on Fri Oct 05, 2007 7:32 am

I haven't seen a topic on this. I hope I didn't miss it. o.o See, in my mind, EVERYONE should feel like this topic should be posted. I expected at least one. =P

I am a loser. I reserved The Legend of Zelda: Phantom Hourglass for the DS because I am way too paranoid and in love with my Zelda games to be frightened that I won't get one. (I waited outside in the cold on November 18th for 16 hours until Midnight when the Wii came out. I have been congested ever since! Then, even though I was ready to pass out dead tired and cold, I still went to Gamestop to pick up my reserved Twilight Princess.)

I have had it since it came out on Tuesday, but I finally had time to play it last night. (We had huge storms here in good ol' South Carolina, and my college's power went out. The news announced that all night classes were cancelled. YES!) It...is...amazing. I didn't know it would be so interactive with the stylus and all that. It's just SO much fun to play. I can't turn it off. I was almost late for work this morning because I picked up again in the middle of getting ready.

Does anyone else share my love for Phantom Hourglass or Zelda games in general?

You probably won't see me for a few days, while I satisfy my cravings and my obsession with this new god-sent creation... =)
Today, Friday, October 10, 2009, is my last day on RolePlayGateway.com.
Everyone give me lots of love, because I shall be handing lots out. <3

Really was it that good? What's the game based around?

OMG! I LOVED Twilight Princess! It was a fun game to play! I loved the street performers and the music, and just the overall feel of the city.

However my favorite game has to be the N46 Ocarina of Time and Majora's Mask. You know how in the beginning of Major's Mask it says Link is looking for someone? I wish the game would go on to say who Link was looking for. I wouldn't mind for once continuing the Link legend of him going around to outside of Hyrule and doing games based off of that.

Now Wind-waker I have no love for. Yeah it was a great game, but it wasn't a ZELDA game.

Okay, let me address your post points one by one, Edge, in order.

1. Yes, the game is that good. I have only beaten the first dungeon, but it's so much fun to play. It's considered a sequel to Windwaker. Link goes with Tetra on the ship after Windwaker to find the Ghost Ship. Well, the Ghost Ship finds them, and Tetra jumps on the Ghost Ship to check it out, and the ship kidnaps her. Link jumps to the ship but falls off, so the game is based on you trying to find the ship to save her.

2. I do agree that Twilight Princess was much fun with a fantastic game environment. I am so sad that I beat it so fast. =( Zelda games can never be long enough.

3. I do agree that Ocarina of Time is one of the top Zelda games, but I wouldn't say Majora's Mask is. I loved that game because it was fun, but I'd put it in one of the last spots. I think it was kind of neat that it was a story outside of Hyrule, but I personally like the stuff with Hyrule and the mysticism around the kingdom and Zelda and such. As for who Link was looking for, I don't quite remember all that part in the beginning. I know he was looking for his Ocarina and Epona since they were stolen. o.O

4. I have a bone to pick with you on your last comment! Windwaker is DEFINITELY in the top 3 Zelda games (with Twilight Princess, and A Link to the Past, and Ocarina of Time. Okay...top 4. o.O I can't choose!). I don't know why you don't think it was a Zelda game. Is it just because it was cell shaded instead of trying to be all realistic or what? That should not determine whether it's a Zelda game or not! Where's your Hyrulian spirit?? If anything, Majora's Mask is the least "Zelda-like" game. Windwaker had the most developed story and characters of any Zelda game ever. It was SO much fun to play, and the story was amazing! It is most certainly a Zelda game, and a damn good one at that!

While I can defiantly agree with Twilight Princess, A Link to the Past, and Ocarina of Time as being the top three Zelda games, I'll take Majora's Mask over Wind Waker any day of the week as a Zelda game.

I'm sorry when you actually KILL LINK, and place the game several generations down the line.... It's not Link. When you have a girl who "transforms" into Zelda.... It's not Zelda, it's a Wizard of Oz rip off (read the first book). You could have replaced those characters with new ones and it still would not feel like a Zelda game it would have easily felt like some other game! The play should have a hard time picturing other characters replacing in the game. To me, you could have put Mario in it and it would have worked fine. There are other details that also bothered me. The Kikori did not feel like how the Kikori should... they were like wooden rattles... that could talk. The whole bird race thing... Nice... but... Not Zelda.

Now Twilight Princess does some of the same thing mind, but the creators I believe wanted not to give the sense that Link was dead, but that the spirit from past games was coming back. AKA the games from beyond the SNES, right back to the NES games. (Remember the artwork from that? Link's way too short tunic and girly hair?)

Now I know why alot of people will say that Majora's Mask was not really a Zelda game. Yes it's missing some main Zelda elements, such as Gannon and Zelda.

But really I think Majora's Mask is a game dedicated to all the side quests that Ocarina of Time could not give. Not to mention the end of Majora's Mask... OMG... White Link is AWSOME. As is the level. Despite the fact that it wasn't in Hyrule, it had a huge Hyrule feel.

Now to get to another point of yours, yes the shading did bother me. I'm not a fan of that style. But for Zelda I always make allowances. After all, Zelda is suppose to be somewhat groundbreaking. However with this style I found that sorely disappointed on the quality of the cinema scenes, custom designs, and general movement of the game.

If I have to say something nice about Wind Waker is was that you could pick up the other guy's weapon and throw it at him. That was sweet.

I've been studying for midterms and tutoring the last few days. I will reply soon when I can dedicate a good chunk of time to deep Zelda thought. o.o

Okay Edge...I have been keeping my boyfriend updated on our topic because he is a Nintendo fanatic and is very knowledgeable about Nintendo stuff. He reads up on everything. o.o

I am going to give him the pleasure of lashing out, so NONE of the words below are my own. I do agree with many of his points however, but not all of them. But I do not want you to be upset with me for what he says. He's not as nice as I am. _-_

How old are you?

i'm sorry, but i can't even begin to understand your logic when talking about story elements and characters. You keep talking about the "FEEL" of something and the "ZELDA-NESS" of it, which just makes my eye twitch.

Here's an example: If you were writing an essay about this subject, and wrote what you wrote in your last post, the teacher would get a red pen and mark through your entire speech, citing reasons such as "What do you mean by "feel"? Where's your evidence? What the hell are you talking about?" you would need to back up what you were saying, because you are using ambiguous words that, basically, mean nothing. See, Zelda games are made by Miyamoto and some other guy who's name I can't remember. To me, the zelda "FEEL" comes from fantastic gameplay, ambience, etc.

If you'd ever played an old nintendo game such as the original Mario and Zelda, you'd know that Miyamoto never, ever cared about storylines and character development. He is completely, utterly devoted to the gameplay and game mechanics, nothing else. This is obvious since most of his game's storylines involve some random princess getting kidnapped. Obviously Zelda's storylines have evolved since then, but to put down a zelda game for things such as zelda transforming and link being "dead" is idiotic. See, none of the zelda games' storylines coincide very well, that stuff is just them trying to tie windwaker into ocarina of time somehow. It's really, really not important. What they spend years developing in these games are the structure, gameplay, graphics(which I'll get into in a moment), etc. See what I'm saying? Now, granted, opinion is opinion, but i'm simply pointing out that to put down an entire, amazingly developed game because of a few plot points that they came up with at the very last moment, seems ridiculous.

anyway, about the graphics, you mentioned quality of cut-scenes and flow of animation. With windwaker, miyamoto stated numerous times that he was trying to make a living, breathing, interactive cartoon-feel. if you started playing it expecting devil may cry, or metal gear, yeah, you'd be disappointed. what you have to do, is put yourself in a different mindset when playing different games. this game's cutscenes and flow of animation were unmatched at the time. No other game, cel-shaded or not, has come close in those departments.

Opinion is one thing, but if i insulted Finding Nemo, the movie, by saying it had poor animation and bad fluidity, simply because i went in expecting to see Rambo, that wouldn't be an opinion, that would just be ignorant.

What is it with this week? Is it some unknown holiday of "Beat Edge with a stick until he falls down"?

First off, I will say that this wasn't hard core or serious discussion for me. It was my own rants for fun thus the illogical organization.

Now it's just not fun.
I was there for the old Zelda games, I was there for the blob that came down from the ceiling. I've played the major console console Zelda games. I've played a couple of the side games.

And out of all of them Windwaker was the biggest disappointment to me because I wanted something more out of the game.
There's just no changing my opinion on Windwaker.

However before I bother to go any further, I'm just going to disengage.

Sorry Mel. The last post killed the fun for me.

I'm an old Nintendo fan as well but I didn't want to be hard core and serious about this subject.

Hey Edge,

I understand. Don't worry about it. I promised Kyle that I'd let him have his say, so I did. I'm not taking sides. I already stated my opinion. ^_^

Sorry it got a little ugly. We can still have a fun conversation about stuff we like in Zelda games! <3

I know this topic was posted a while back but I have to say something about the Zelda games.

How perfect is Zelda and the Ocarina of Time??? Is it not one of the most perfect fantasy RPG games of all time. Its brilliance for a early game and for being on the Nintendo 64.

It is easily equal to Elder Scrolls IV, Oblivion which is an awsome game too.

You can ignore the rest of my rant. I just wanted to tell Angel that I was waiting all morning, noon, and night outside Walmart to get my own Wii on release day. Luckily I lived in a small ass, back-water burg where no one else cared or had the foresight to wait in line. Only 9 units. We had a Mariocart tourney while we waited. Twilight Princess, Raving Rabids, and X-Men... what a month that was! Awesome!

I had to wait for Hourglass of Time quite a long while. My dad back home was good enough to track one down after about 3 weeks of it being sold out, then 1 week to ship to me. I love it. It may not be very challenging, but the interaction with the stylus and the minigames are great. Fun far outways gigaflops, and photorealistic graphics. Besides, I like cartoony, the characters have more personality and don't seem generic or "waxwork".

I got the 3 elements and am advancing to the ghost ship soon. But I'm afraid the game will end too soon. Even though I have explored only half of the map... Zelda, you've let me down before. I think Link to the Past was the only game that delivered, TO THE MAX, on playtime. Original Legend of Zelda delivered, but there was nothing else to compare it to. It's just fun, and I can't stop playing. I got distracted for an hour and a half when I was supposed to be giving someone a ride. I don't think he was too mad.

Haha. Don't worry, Nix. As I mentioned before, I was out in the cold for 16 hours as well waiting for the Wii the day it came out. A lot of us sitting in line had our DS's with us and played MarioKart and such as well. =D

As for Phantom Hourglass, I beat it within 2 weeks of finally getting it where I had reserved it. I never wanted it to end. The game play and everything is just so amazing. But, the good thing about games like that is that you can always play them again and they are just as fun. There are still items and treasure charts, etc. that I didn't get before I beat it, and am probably going to start playing it again next week after school is over for the semester to get all the items. I also want to play Twilight Princess again. I just...can't describe the greatness in words...

I played the demo version at a store yesterday. Mad fun. I've never played a DS before (no. not. ever) so at first the controls were kind of awkward. But then I started seeing all this "Link swings his sword such and such way depending on how you move the stylus" idea and it was awsome. But....they brought back fairies. Damn it, Navi and Tatle were annoying enough for a lifetime already!

There's nothing wrong with the fairies! I think a Zelda is not totally complete without a fairy. Unless, you have someone AWESOME like Midna in Twilight Princess. Poor link is a little dependent. He needs a pal to help him.

Easy there....Faries have their only little charm. I know that Navi could be annoying, and sometimes you wanted rip off its wings and make it walk back to Kokiri...But the game wouldn't of been as gewd without it.

IF No one has pointed this out about Majora's Mask, I'd like to point out who he was looking for.

He was looking for the boss, yes, Skull Kid.

The Kid who taught him the song in the forest, was possessed by the masks power and ancestry.

You can tell this from the ending, the Saria's song plays at the end if you wait long enough for it to happen.

For the others, I think Windwakers pretty fun...
Although pretty much combined with the Link to the Past...

Buy a Wii and download zelda, better investment. Unless you are a crazy collector. Also aren't all the lunar stories reproduced on other media? PS1 or Gameboy? I thought I saw them...
