Question here from the FNG

Tips: 0.00 INK Postby FathersDislikeMe on Sun Oct 25, 2020 5:03 pm

So I've lurked this joint since it was dndog. I even ran a game on here about five years ago before life made me stop having fun. So I created a new account, set up a nifty Universe, and then started looking around to see what everyone else was doing.

I noticed that there aren't a lot... if any... dice moderated RPs.

Now, that is totally fine. I don't mind free form. But I do like my "RP" with the "G" part.

So do any people here still play games with dice-moderated rule systems, or is this mostly meant for free form? My current Universe is meant for a dice-moderated game, but I also have ideas for free form RPs too.

Just trying to gauge the local flavor.

Despite having support for /roll, it looks like very few people actually use it! I know there were a few recent plans to start up a Universe with more formal rules than freeform, but I'm not sure they got off the ground. I'd love to see it done, though!

In the IC, try /roll 1d20 (or any combination thereof, including modifiers, like /roll 2d6+2) and you should get a new event in the Universe history. Let me know if you have any trouble!

You've promptly answered two of my questions! You are my new Favorite Person of the Day, Mr. Rem. :)

I actually am testing out a modified dice system that, funny enough, is meant to be used for multi-user, multi-thread online RPs where characters want a little crunch to go with their narrative. Myself and a few buddies have been working on it for a bit, all of us having been active on said game in the past (the entire continuity lasted about seven years and boasted over a hundred regular characters.

The goal was to provide fun and simple (numbers-lite) resolutions to conflict and challenges while also encouraging player creativity and impact on the setting (i.e. characters having a stake in the world, not just reacting to it). At the game's zenith, we had virtually no NPCs. We didn't need them. PCs filled in the positions of shopkeepers, government officials, local nobility, sheriffs, butchers, bakers, and candlestick makers.

It was based very heavily on True20, which is an AMAZING deconstruction of basically every d20 system. We just made it less about adventuring, and more about characters controlling their own little piece of the world - be it as a barmaid, a soldier on leave, or Ventruvius Blackbane McGloomypants, Vampire Demon Werewolf Lord of Bloodhowler Bloodyblood Castle (not an actual character).

I'll keep fine tuning my setting and see, in a week or so, if I can't generate a bit of interest.
