[ROTH]Map planning ooc

Tips: 0.00 INK Postby That One Guy on Sun Apr 13, 2014 2:47 pm

As this rp grows so too does the map and locations we find our characters in. I have written and provided major areas of Baekoth but you, the roleplayers, have and will be busy making your own locations as well. This ooc is where you can submit and format additions to the official map. Before your new location can appear on the official map ooc a few things must take place.

  • You must write a description about the location in the font times new roman
  • You must mark where this location is on the map with a gray dot with this color code: #A4A4A4
  • You must come up with an image, gif preferred, of this location
  • All of this must have my stamp of approval before I, not you, add it to the official map section. I will be marking these areas numerically so that they stand out from the alphabetical main locations that we started out with.

don't be afraid to use this ooc to just talk about a new place idea you have too, this is a planning ooc so you don't have to worry about keeping it neat and organized like our other information forums

Red Harbor

Image

Description: It might not be Dorelith's most culturally important city, but Red Harbor is a vital political and economical hub in the Queen's lands. Surpassed only by Citha in size, its access to the sea has made it the center of trade for the humans, a link to lands far away and difficult to reach by road. Naturally, Red Harbor swelled in size and importance over the years, its towering central castle surrounded by a dense urban landscape. Historically, the city held out against the Queen for quite some time after the coup in Citha, but the Queen's supporters eventually overwhelmed the loyalists, resulting in a day of chaos known as the Riot of Red Harbor.

(Obviously several people have written some stuff about Red Harbor after I made it, but I figured just the basics is good for a description.)

On the map, it is...

Image

Where the 1 is, the gray dot. The bay in front of it is called Red Bay.

... aren't you doing all the official changes to the map thread? The dot shows where it is, and this is just the unofficial thread.

Sorry, I'm just a little confused.

Yes, I'm the one who goes and inserts the information, however it is most helpful if you guys just mark on the map numerically that way I don't have to go find the picture in my documents, try to hit the same point on the map, go to tinypic.com and upload it, fill in their stupid 'just checking to see if your not a spambot" test and replacing the old map with the new one. I most certainly can do those things, but it would be much easier if people came to me with most of that already done. I mean I don't think it's too much to ask that you guys just mark your new location numerically????

Right, changed the image above to have a 1 instead of an H.

Sorry if I sounded like a dick, I just didn't really understand how the whole process of getting stuff into the official thread worked. Done now.

Dorchaidhe

Image

Description: A location just barely south of the Darkwood is not what anyone would call ideal real estate, and though in times long past, Dorchaidhe was actually the capital of Idris, one of the many fragmented countries that became Dorelith, its glory days are far behind it. It exists now as an impressive fortress-city, reduced in size compared to many of the others the region boasts, but notable for being surrounded on two sides by sheer, seemingly insurmountable cliff faces. The third side includes a harbor, if a small one, and confronts the wrath of an often-tumultuous Kraken Ocean. The last side, of course, faces the Darkwood, and the walls on that side are especially heavily-patrolled at night.

While not known for anything in particular, the city has an impressive array of siege weaponry which, combined with the tiered wall structure protecting the local lordโ€™s Keep, makes the place well-nigh impenetrable. The woman currently in charge, Mirka Landry, is an ally of the Messiah-Queen and a worshipper of Aule. Perhaps, had she not been, the Queenโ€™s forces would have found it very hard to take the city. Lady Landry rules the place with a temperate hand, generally valuing good sense and practicality over lofty idealism, even in her religious practice.

And on the map:

Minor detail, but I think you might have your forests backwards, Kiku. The one in Dorelith is Silibard Forest, not the Darkwood, right?

Oh! So Silibard is just that little tiny one in the bottom right, and Darkwood is the bigger one above it. Wow. I always thought that was all one forest.

Doh.

Aurelis

Image

Description: Caught somewhere between city and village, Aurelis is still a place slowly coming into it's own. Known for virtually nothing other than it's Lord, Kaerwyn the White, or more properly Lord Kaerwyn d'Aurelis. It is a place that the Lord built with his own hands, and won by his own deeds. Still young by the world's standards, somewhere around fifteen years since the first brick was laid, It's name is hardly on the tongues of outsiders, and even when it is, it's usually because of it's Lord. It is a quaint place, and Kaerwyn has proven to be a lax, but fair leader even to the slaves which make up most of the work force. His brother, Gwyn, serves as steward and runs most of the small scale business and planning, leaving the Lord ample time to experiment with magic in the heart of the town.

Aspiring one day to occupy some cultural significance within Taomar, Aurelis has a long way to go to become an established state. However, as with everything, it has potential, and the will of her Lord would see the land prosper under his watch. Crops may make the majority of the city's export, but it is but a stepping stone to something greater. One day, Learning will be the city's export, but first, it must prove itself as a city.

Number 3, right above the word Taomar
