The Laws and Places of Magic

OOC: Decided to add a bit more about the classes of spells and stuff, since some of my writing actually focuses on that, especially now that they're in the temple. I'll write more about that and the way their 'government' system runs later on this evening.

Low Level Magic
Class 1 - Cantrips, basically: common household spells as in hexing a broom to sweep for you, spoon to stir a pot, etc. small light orbs can be made as well.
Class 2 - Summon some objects within a X ft proximity to you, usually used by mage housewives to expedite grabbing ingredients while cooking. Very light damaging elemental spells fall under this.

Mid-Level Magic
Class 3 - Barrier/protection spells, basic first-aid and healing spells (repair light damage such as small cuts, bruises, pain relief, etc.) C3 barriers can block Mid-to-low level magic, and high level magic can surpass them.
Class 4 - All Illusion spells are Class 4
Class 5 - Mid-range elemental magic. Causes minor damage to most enemies. Blockable by most Class 3 barriers

High-Level Magic
Class 6 - Powerful healing spells, barrier spells and group-affecting variants of healing and barrier magic.
Class 7 - High damaging elemental magic
Class 8 - Summoning of representations of elemental spirits, manipulating of elements (able to draw water out of plants and the ground, things like that.

Forbidden Magic
Necromancy - bringing the dead back to life

Shapeshifting - any sort of shapeshifting, whether it be into animal, etc. Illusion spells that make you simply LOOK like another race or animal are not included into this.

Death Spells - Anything causing death as a direct affect of the spell such as an instant-death spell. Also included are slow torturous-death curses.

Cloning spells- anything that clones the user or another person, or is used to make them look like someone permanently. These are not Illusion spells; all illusions have a 'shimmer' affect if you look close enough. These typically do not.

Lifestyle affecting- bonding curses (such as the one Aura placed on Rylen), curses that prevent hunger, or physical needs, or make the user immortal are all included in this. Also changing one's aura, personality, wiping of memories, etc. included.


Death spells, along with anything affecting one's life are the highest class of forbidden spells and in the Mage community are punishable by execution.

Cloning and shapeshifting are punishable by imprisonment usually.

Necromancy is punishable by a slow, tortured death by the hands of any families affected by their loved ones being brought back via the Necromancer's power. This is the darkest of all magics, also the hardest to control as the power eats away at the user's lifeforce quickly. Most Necromancers age 3x that of a normal mage.
